Guest Host Logic

Honestly, I don't get it. They have the perfect opportunity in many markets the WWE visits to get someone LOCAL. This would get a good reaction from the crowd, or at least SOME reaction from them. Perfect example is the up coming Raw live in Toronto, Ontario CANADA! They could have grabbed someone that was at least from Ontario, or at least Canada, but no, instead the WWE books Buzz Aldrin.... really, Buzz Aldrin? I'm willing to bet that half the people from the United States don't know who Buzz is, never mind the people from Canada. Not to mention, the target market for the WWE, especially in Canada, will have no clue to who this guy is. It makes no sense to me.

What are your thoughts?

Totally agree. Someone like Joe Carter (World Series here for the Blue Jays in 92 or 93) would have been a good choice. I guess they don't want to do a baseball guy 6 weeks removed from Pete Rose.

It seems like most of the guest hosts have no logic based on location, anyway. Pete Rose wasn't in Cinci, Roethlisberger wasn't in Pittsburgh, Shaq wasn't anywhere where he played.

A lot of it is based on promoting stupid movies or cd's or whatever. I'm unimpressed 90% of the time with the guest hosts anyway.

I understand the whole deal is to make money, work with other people in cross promotion, but really- most of the time the gimmick isn't at all entertaining, and I think if the masses are entertained, the product will sell. Keep booking former WWE stars to host the show. Keep it wrestling related. Or sports entertainment related, whatever. Gangrel can host. Screw over or help Edge. They don't all have to have been huge stars, but they'd get pops from the attitude crowd and at least fit in. I'd much rather see a Steve Blackman or the Headbangers as hosts of Raw instead of Buzz Aldrin, Pete Rose, or ZZ Top.

Well sure, you learn about Buzz in school, but I was just agreeing with the poster's point that this dude made AMERICAN history, but is hosting the show in Canada. I guess to be fair, it is still an American show though.

Can someone please wake me when The Rock guest hosts.

Pffft. Buzz Aldrin I mean honestly, they'd have been better off getting an astronaut to host the show.

Again, this is for the LIVE crowd, not for the people sitting at home. I guarantee you, if someone like Joe Carter walked through the curtain and into the WWE ring, the ACC would have no roof left. It is better than Buzz Aldrine who, I again, guarantee you will get little to no crowd reaction next week.

[QUOTE=Boondock Saint;3062681]How does someone not know who Buzz Aldrin is?[/QUOTE

Yeah, we should know him. Fact of the matter is that unless you are in the newspapers or on TV a few times a week for doing something bad or controversial within the past few years, your star has flamed out. He's from out of space- now if he were a vampire or something, people might know him.

I'm 26. I live in Illinois. I bet 35-50 percent of people my age in Illinois know Rod Blagojevich isn't the governor anymore, but don't know who the governor currently is.

MAYBE people will know who Aldrin is- but no one will care.

The guest hosts needs to be someone who is known by a huge demographic. While a local guy would look good for the live crowd you're going to have the television crowd just sitting on their hands. Now they could get away with it when they do sports stars, or actors, or other people who live a stones throw away from the arena. You have to be famous for this gig, or else you'll get "From Sirius Radio- Bubba The Love Sponge".

Actually Ben and Shaq were both in the cities they played, and maybe Bob Barker in Chicago was close to where he films. But 90% of the time, they are in the wrong area. Bret Hart hosting in Ohio, Jerry Springer in Iowa, Pete Rose in CA, Stone Cold in San Deigo, Jewel and Ty Murray in Indiana, Mike Tyson in Minnesota, etc... ? You would think WWE would plan wisely so celebrity can get a good reaction, but most of the time they dont.

I believe this is their logic:

If you are hosting Raw in "City A" its better to have someone from "City B" because if fans live in City A they are going to go regardless of who the host is. The person from City B will appeal to other markets.

Well, when RAW was in London a few months back they had former boxer Ricky Hatton host the show. I am English, and I couldn't understand a word he said, given his accent. Then, the next time, they get the Hoff. Not even an Englishman. So yes, I get your point about the Buzz Aldrin thing. Personally I'd like Jim Neidhart to host one of these days. And I ask myself why he wasn't brought in for the recent angle with Bret, but that's another thread I suppose ...

Do you really think they care about this? They are going to sell out no matter who is the host. And they are more concerned with their National Audience, which brings in far more revenue than just the Toronto crowd. SO no, they dont care what city they are in when the hosts are on.

The guest host thing capitalizes more-so on getting a geust host that has something to promote than having anything to do with wrestling. Why do you think the WWE is trying to get Betty White to host Raw? I mean seriously! A Twitter petition? I mean come on. Just because it worked for SNL doesn't mean it's going to work for the WWE. I mean shit, apparently there's a Facebook petition to get Betty White to host the Oscars. I highly doubt that's going to happen anytime soon.

I do agree that they should get hosts that more relate to the place where they're performing, but you have to realize that the WWE is a big buisness and getting big names to draw in viewers is objective.

It just makes me upset and change the channel when they have hosts that can't hold their own and look really weak on live TV like those Nascar guys and others I can't quite remember because I blocked them out of my mind.

EDIT:

BEN ROETHLISBERGER!!!

I agree the Guest Host could have a local angle. Why Kurt Warner or Charles Barkley didnt host from Phoenix is beyond me. I just hate when it's a blatant promo for an upcoming movie or USA show.
Personally Id stop the guest host thing.

Roethlisberger did NOT host in Pittsburgh. He hosted over halfway across the state - much closer to Philadelphia than PGH.

Most of the tickets for a venue are sold before any thought is put into who'll be guest hosting that particular week, so it's not like WWE could use that as a draw to sell MORE tickets.

But I'm not sure what in the blue hell Buzz Aldrin is supposed to be promoting this week. Does he have a book coming out or something?
