Sure, but it eventually got to a point where it wasn't a big deal anymore. The progress you speak of was more than just graphics. The nature of games changed so much. Advancements in the graphics doesn't mean very much to me anymore.
I'm not saying games shouldn't continue to push the envelope and develop better graphics and bigger worlds/etc., but a good game is a good game.
Blasting a 2010 game for having slightly outdated graphics isn't the same thing as believing that technology should move on from Atari.


Also, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Dig Dug and any of those games are still fantastic in all their simplicity.
