Official UFC 119 Thread - Welcome to Indy!

News, Rumors, anything involving this Event goes here. I know its not a big deal to most, but ITS STILL BIG TO ME DAMMIT!

( P.s. I'm going )

Lets start

I'm pretty sure Matt Mitrione and Chris Lytle are going to be fighting matches on this card. I'm not sure who there opponents will be. I've read Lytle vs Badar. Dunno for sure.

The potential big names who would be in line for another fight make my mouth water. GSP, Rampage, Rashad Evans, Rua ( injured? ), Machida? , Forrest maybe if he's not a drunk fat mess like he was on TUF. Kenny Florian maybe? I'm missing a few.

So hyped.

It dont matter who did what to who at this point. The fact is, we went to war. And now there aint no going back. It's what war is you know? Once you're in it, you're in it. If it's a lie, then we fight on that lie, but we gotta fight!

Lytle V Bader won't be happening, wrong weight classes. But Bader should def be on the card. Maybe against Mini Nog.

I believe they wanted to do Shogun V Evans, but Shogun will be out with a knee injury.

It's possible that it could be a Rampage V Forrest rematch could be the main event.

Also Guillard V Jeremy Stephens is also rumoured for the card.

Did you see Forrest on TUF? Incredibly out of shape. Not just " 4 months from a fight " out of shape. It was like " I'm drinking everynight and dont give a shit " out of shape. He looked hung over half the time on that show. I dont know if Forrest is fighting again this year.

GSP will be a coach on TUF and it will air around UFC 119 so he's probably out of action until December. Rua's injury will probably disallow him to compete until late October I think.

Rampage vs Machida would be nice. They both need something.

Rampage doesn't seem to want to fight Machida. Honestly can't think of any other possible fights that could main event this show other than Rampage V Forrest/Machida.

I wanna see Bader fight. Rampage needs to fight. Machida should fight too, but not each other! What's the deal with Rumble Johnson? He needs to get back on the horse too. Pitbull Alves could be a possibility too

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (30-8 MMA, 5-2 UFC) and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (19-3 MMA, 2-0 UFC) have agreed to meet in an upcoming light-heavyweight superfight, though an exact date hasn't been decided for the bout.

Sources close to the competitors told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) verbal agreements are in place but that bout agreements have not been distributed.

And though the fight would appear a perfect headliner for September's UFC 119 event, a source said October UFC 120 or UFC 121 slots are also possibilities.

UFC 119 could have a major championship headliner.

Following his UFC 116 title-unification victory over interim champion Shane Carwin, undisputed heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar (5-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) now could meet top contender Cain Velasquez (8-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) in the main event of September's UFC 119 event.

Prior to Saturday's event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Lesnar and Carwin both were told by UFC officials that the winner – health permitting – tentatively would meet Velasquez at UFC 119. That's according to a report from MMAjunkie.com's (www.mmajunkie.com) Dann Stupp in his weekly Dayton Daily News "MMA Insider" column.

Although not officially announced by the organization, UFC 119 takes place Sept. 25 at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Lesnar's team and UFC officials are expected to discuss the possibility of the UFC 119 slot this week.

Lesnar suffered some damage in a first round dominated by Carwin's ground and pound. In fact, two judges award him the round via scores of 10-8. However, he recovered in the second and secured an via arm-triangle choke to submit Carwin. Lesnar attended the night's post-fight conference and suggested he had no serious injuries, which makes a potential UFC 119 meeting a real possibility.

UFC 119, of course, is in desperate need of a main event. With the organization's busy late-summer/fall schedule, few top draws and headline-worthy fighters are available for the event, which marks the UFC's debut in the state of Indiana.

Lesnar certainly would give the show a boost. His fight with Carwin is likely to produce approximately 1 million pay-per-view buys, according to UFC president Dana White, and many consider the former WWE star the world's new top-ranked heavyweight following former kingpin Fedor Emelianenko's recent loss to Strikeforce fighter Fabricio Werdum.

After UFC 116, White confirmed the UFC's plans to give Velasquez the next title shot. The undefeated American Kickboxing Academy fighter earned his title shot with six consecutive UFC victories, including back-to-back knockouts of contender Cheick Kongo and former title-holder Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

September 25th. So not the quickest turnaround, but not the longest lay off either. Should know soon, since if Lesnar did accept to fight on the card, he would need to get back into training again pretty soon.

Cain’s standup is definitely better than Carwin’s, but is it as powerful? I just can’t see Cain knocking Lesnar out if Carwin couldn’t with all those bombs he was dropping. Lesnar will overpower Cain and force another submission.

Yes, but very few of those bombs landed cleanly, and each time I've seen Cain his striking get's faster, better and he hits harder. Cain is going to be much quicker than Shane, and maybe harder to take down. Let's not forget that Cain is a Division 1 All-American wrestler. Add to that his endless Cardio, go watch his fight with Kongo where he mauls him for three rounds and never gets tired. The guy dropped Nog, I know he's beaten up now, but still his chin is legandary in MMA.

Lesnar is going need to respect Cain's stand up, which is going to make it harder for him to shoot in for the takedown. I wouldn't be expecting Lesnar to submit Cain in this one, Cain isn't going to tire like Carwin, and probably has better BJJ. This is going to be a good fight, and a hard one to call.

Yes, but Velasquez has also never wrestled anyone anywhere near the caliber of Lesnar. Taking down Kongo isn’t the same as taking down Lesnar.

Likewise, Carwin seems far more suited to being able to stuff a takedown than Velasquez. I’m not underestimating Velasquez, but Kongo was actually beating him on the feet. Every time they stood up, Kongo took it it to him.

I believe Carwin was Division II, Valeaques is much better than Carwin I'm going to assume. Speed and quickness play a big part of wrestling, and Cain should be able to use his speed to avoid clinches with Brock.

The point you made was Kongo took it to him of the feet, yeah but Brock's striking is infantile compared to Kongo's.

And Cain probably won't be looking to take Brock down, he's gonna wanna stand up with Brock, sinces Brocks boxing sucks. And if Cain wanted to take him down, he'd he'll have the advantage of using his striking to set up the takedown, something Brock can't do well.

Velasquez doesn’t hit as hard as Carwin. He’s faster, but Lesnar is 20-30 lbs bigger than Velasquez. I just can’t see Velasquez being able to stop Lesnar’s takedown if it comes to it.

meh. There were so many awesome opportunities for this card, this feels like a let down. There's plenty of time to salvage the bad taste in our mouths. Perhaps Page will get his shit in order and show on the card

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has learned from sources close to the promotion that both fighters have agreed to the matchup, and bout agreements are expected to be finalized shortly.

UFC 119 takes place Sept. 25 at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

The two longtime UFC veterans first met at The Ultimate Fighter 4 Finale in November 2006 following the lone season of the Spike TV-broadcast reality series to feature organization veterans. Serra earned a split-decision nod in the fight.

Serra, of course, earned a title shot with the win over Lytle and went on to shock the MMA world with a first-round TKO of Georges St-Pierre. Serra was crowned the UFC's welterweight champion with the win, though he would relinquish the belt to St-Pierre in a rematch at UFC 83.

Serra fought most recently in a UFC 109 TKO win over Frank Trigg.

Meanwhile, Lytle carries a three-fight win streak into the matchup – his longest such run to take place in the octagon. An Indianapolis native, Lytle fought at this past weekend's UFC 116 event, where he made a claim for the evening's "Submission of the Night" with a combination triangle choke/straight armbar finish of Matt Brown. That claim ultimately fell short when UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar tapped out then-interim champ Shane Carwin.

Despite the snub, Lytle's go-for-broke fighting style has earned him an astounding seven "Fight Night" bonuses in his past nine UFC fights.
