Actually, it looks very much like Pro Wrestling = JJ Abrahms.

That wasn't really the point, though. However, considering how little sense pro wrestling canon makes, I'd be surprised if Lost wasn't at least partially inspired by Vincent Kennedy McHammer.

I have never seen an invasion angle where the backstage guys and referees are the first wave of attackers in the attempt to repel the invaders. So that was new.

I didn't like this angle when it was first rumoured, and I don't like it now. ECW is dead, people need to stop living in 2001.

On the other hand, Stevie Richards looked cool there... maybe a Stevie Richards push in next in line...

I'm going to go against the wave and say I don't think it is as bad as people are chalking it up (or down) to be. It didn't really give me goosebumps like ECW showing up in the WWE did, or the Nexus angle -- but as far as a solid storyline goes, it may have hope.

Here are things I like about the angle:

* To a degree -- how messy it is. Look, I know people are used to professional wrestling being clean and making perfect sense with clear motivations all the time (*snort*), but I can appreciate the direction TNA goes sometimes in that the characters often act like real people, and don't always wear their motives on their sleeves, even if it doesn't always work. For example: Tara joining Madison Rayne may not make any sense yet, but I'm sure when the time comes, we will know why Tara does as Tara does.

* That we didn't get a whole parade of wrestlers running down was a nice touch, I think. It makes things seem unscripted. It's not a wrestler's job to be security for a show. So, of course, security is hammered first. Also, the TNA guys who ran into the ring were jumped as soon as they got in. The ECW four had the ring covered and the higher ground advantage.

* Sometimes when you are in a fight, you don't really stop to think about what your motivations are. Devon, for example, probably just felt like hitting some TNA guys he didn't like because some of his old mates were in trouble.

* I like guys like Al Snow, Stevie Richards and Rhino, so I am glad to see them do something. Even if it is 2010.

Now, it was far from the brilliant television TNA was going for, I'm sure; but I wasn't particularly offended by it. It just depends on where TNA takes the angle. We need some explanation as to why these guys are doing what they're doing. Raven is brilliant when it comes to the psychology side of the business. Let him talk about why he and Tommy Dreamer are now aligned.

There's also the problem of credibility. The fact is, most of these ECW guys didn't really amount to main event status in their careers. Raven and Rhino were NWA World Heavyweight Champions in TNA, but they're getting up there in age now. Raven, in particular, doesn't look like he can handle the schedule of being a full-time wrestler. These guys probably shouldn't be put over as the biggest threat even if they were in shape. That's why I think Raven needs to play the mind games, Rhino needs to be the tank, Richards needs to reveal that he's entered a late prime, and all that sort of thing if this angle is even going to remotely stand on its legs.

In fact, part of me hopes that they blow this angle wide open, and have Dixie Carter say she brought them in because the ECW name still tests well with demographics, only for Jarrett to tell her it is 2010, and they need to earn their spots. Maybe even paint these guys as bitter old men who never achieved, and have Rob Van Dam distance himself from the group because of it.

It boggles my mind how they could do this awful with such a proven, fool proof angle. All they had to do was just rip it off completely if they were going to rip it off. They couldn't just simply transfer it from one show to another. Jesus fucking hell.

To be honest, I think a lot of the problems with it actually come from the guys they are using. Even in their time, they weren't exactly the biggest threats to anybody. Some of them got very fucking over (as was everybody during that era), but having guys like Dreamer, Richards and Raven beating up people in 2010 has got problems that go deeper than presentation.

Narc has hit what the main problem is going to be from the get go. They are basically too old. The most exciting bit about that was when the younger talent hit the ring and added some energy. The announcing was dreadful there as well.

Pretty much this. It sucks the dude has health problems, and it's awesome that he can still be in shape enough to technically get in the ring and work a match or whatever -- but that doesn't mean he'll be easy to accept as a main event star as long as we overlook his problems and such.

Raven as a manager or color commentator is instant win. Raven as an active wrestler, ESPECIALLY one that is in the centre of a main event storyline, might not be such the case.

I'd rather the ECW guys took some TNA talent under their wing. I'd personally have gone with Mr. Anderson as the focal part of the group. Have the ECW oldies help him out at Victory Road, and he wins the TNA World Heavyweight Title, and RVD is all "What the fuck?"

Have them cut promos about how they never got their chance in the main event. They've had their runs here and there, but when the money comes in, they are ushered out for the more "mainstream" guys. They reveal they hate Rob Van Dam, because he pretty much outgrew them. Anderson, however, has had the same streak of luck they have had. Plus, in real life, Anderson is someone that Paul Heyman really supported. If you brought him in as the mastermind behind the group, he could easily explain why Anderson fits his image of a new force in professional wrestling.

Several X-Division guys and all that could join. Samoa Joe has his relationship with Taz which is still occasionally referenced. Taz could get him into the group as their fire-power.

After Impact this week, I kind of pity Tommy Dreamer a bit. His whole life is revolving about a promotion that ended like 10 years ago. I know that he's an emotional guy, but Jesus. To hold on to an idea for so long, even years after its demise is pretty sad.
