The matches at the MITB PPV were for brand specific cases. The match at WM was always for a general MITB cash in against the champ of either brand.

Correct. The MITB PPV had a match for a Smackdown title shot (Kane won), and a match for a Raw title shot (Miz won). This is why Miz's briefcase is red. Kane's briefcase was blue - for the hour or so he held it.


Of course, if WWE doesn't mention that stipulation for a couple months, then it never existed and Miz COULD cash in on the SD belt if the storyline called for it.
