What ERA or GENERATION would you call this...
I'd say the Attitude Era to WrestleMania X7 (1997-2001) was it's own era.

Now from Backlash 01- WrestleMania XX (2001-2004), what would you call this time frame? Would you call this the "transition era"? That sounds dumb. This was the time WCW got was ushered in, they trimmed the fat, and eventually a new roster arose. The "Ruthless Agression Era" wasn't mentioned enough for it to be called that. What

I think from WrestleMania XX to now (2004-Present) can be called "The Future", The Rock had his last match to date at XX and we saw the rise of John Cena. Pretty much

How would you name these different eras?

just wondering, what grants it the name "Ruthless Agression"? Was it because the technical wrestling + talent was good at the time (mainly SD! in 2003. Lesnar, Angle, Guerrero, Rey, Hass, Benjamin etc etc)?

I think this is the transitional era. 2001 to 2004 was certainly different, but we still had Rock, Austin, Angle, HHH, Flair, Taker and later Hogan, Nash, etc...

This might be the first era where there are only two true Superstars from multiple eras in HHH and Taker. So many new faces coming in and getting pushed while older guys like Hogan, Flair, and Shawn either got pushed out or retired.

I think Vince McMahon was the first one to use the term. He used it about a week before Cena said it in his WWE debut vs. Angle. It was right after Austin walked out of WWE, and McMahon said something like everyone in WWE needs to show ruthless aggression now.

Can't really call this the "transitional" or "the future" era as transitionary periods and periods of building to the future will happen throughout wrestling history, so calling this era that hardly makes it unique.

Here's how I see the eras in WWE history since the 80s.

1985-1993 - Hulkamania Era/Golden Era
1993-1997 - The New Generation
1997-2001/2002 - Attitude Era
2002 onwards = Roster split Era.
