A remake of the cult hit movie Rocky Horror Picture Show is being developed by Fox 2000, with Glee creator Ryan Murphy one possibility to direct, according to Deadline Hollywood. Glee is running a Rocky Horror episode in which the cast performs the well-known Time Warp number next week.



Rocky Horror, which was originally released in 1975, is still playing in midnight shows in some locales, and has a devoted fan following. It also was a merchandise driver, with a range of products appealing to those for whom the film’s edgy take on Frankenstein was a badge of hipness.




This is one remake that definitely DOESN'T need to occur. The movie was a box office bust, and only started making money after the Waverly Theatre in New York City started doing a midnight showing.

Any remake will either a) take itself too seriously or b) try to take the "cool factor" over the top. Either way the new version will be shite.

I go to the theater to see this around every Halloween. Will be disappointed to see a remake but will never watch it anyway.

Yea, remakes don't cheapen anything really. They used to upset me more in concept, but after how awful Halloween was, and how little impact it had on my feeling of the original, I really don't care anymore.

I still hold classics like Jaws and Back to the Future on a higher level though, and although remaking them won't cheapen the originals, I still will find it upsetting if it does happen. I just don't want to see anything else wear that name.
However, true classics like King Kong and Psycho, among many others were eventually remade. Those were so long afterwards though.

Yea no doubt. The 2005 remake was incredible. But it was remade in 1976 as well. Either way, the remake came along way later when film had changed enough that remaking the movie had some value storywise, and not just financially.
There was a lot more you could do with King Kong 70 years later.

There's no point in remaking Jaws or Back to the Future at this stage in the game.

I think the majority of those horror movies were just reactionary to the success of the Texas Chainsaw remake.
After that, they rebooted everything, but I really do feel it's pointless. It was just a trend, but I think it's become evident that the horror genre fans would turn out for the latest Jason, Freddy or Myers movie regardless of whether it's a reboot or a sequel.
The same goes for just about anything they remake.

Most of the reboots have been poorly recieved and are unlikely to see anymore sequels either. Paramount restarded Friday the 13th, and has cancelled development of a sequel and has no plans to make anymore right now. In retrospect, making sequels and just taking things in a new direction may have been a smarter move, not just creatively but financially as well.

I was glad to see them make a true sequel instead of reboot Predator, and they're doing prequels for Alien.
It's obvious that you can "reboot" a popular franchise without starting over.

I doubt it'll happen, there were rumours a few years back it'd be remade but nothing came of it and I don't think anything will of this one either.

I think the original movie stands on its own as something special due to its cast and how it developed a cult following but having another movie made of it doesn't bother me. If they don't change any of the songs and maybe finally include Once In A While it might be good, yes the original cast was good but the damn thing is originally a stage show so its not like people aren't used to seeing a different cast each time.

Hell just record one of the tour productions and release that on DVD.

One of my favorite movies. One of my favorite TV shows. The good thing about Glee is their RESPECT level when they give homage to certain shows & artists. They have ALWAYS given the proper levels of respect to the craft. It is not thrown together bullshit that ends up hurting or taking away the feeling of the original.

Rocky is probably my all time favorite movie and definitely my favorite musical ever. I can't wait to see this.

a remake won't even come close to ruining my love for the original, but i can't see it being an improvement. most of its charm comes from how cheesy it is. probably won't watch it anyway, so what the fuck do i really care?

i did just watch rocky horror at the outdoor theater in a double feature with the big lebowski and it was fantastic.
