I think the success of Spidey and Iron Man has lead a lot of comic movies to mimic that style, even though it doesn't fit every character. It seems like they're doing the same thing with Thor. He's going to be trying to fit into modern society and it will likely be full of jokes, and a love interest. And here we'll see Green Lantern in similar situations. Fans may expect an ancient war epic from Thor, or a space opera from Green Lantern, but they're probably not going to get it. Unfortunately I think a lot of studios have settled on what a comic movie should be, regardless of the character. That's why Nolan's Batman movies are great. They bypass that and go for being serious crime dramas, like they should. Hopefully Captain America resembles a serialized WW2 adventure.

Well Thor actually started out taking place mostly on Earth, so it makes sense the first movie would too. Maybe in a sequel we'll see an epic battle for asgard against Surtur or something.
