To be honest should we as fans really care about what goes on backstage. I mean if you like a wrestler you can like a wrestler. Yeah Shawn Michaels was an asshole during his first run but I still considered him a favorite because I don't care what goes on backstage. I do question what they're smoking back there now giving Miz the title. I know I am one of the only ones but he really is not WWE/World Title material.

Are you talking about that SNME match from 1992? One of my favorite matches ever that nobody talks about. That was the first time I remember seeing the exposed turnbuckle spot. It was also worked cleverly. It wasn't just some dork accidentally jumped face first into it and knocked himself out. The Bulldog got Irish whipped into it, and it was all but forgotten until way later when he attempted a superplex and his back gave out.

Creatively, he was much better from 94-98. Just as far as promos and his character were concerned.

But he was also a piece of shit. Not that that matters, but it was nice to see him improve on some level. (Don't tell Helms that.)

But as far as performance goes, he really may have been better from 2002-10. He definitely had just as many classics.
Maybe even more.

It's really a toss-up. I enjoy the original HBK and his subsequent DX heel turn far more than the Christian babyface, but the match quality is the same great stuff.

Same kind of thing with Shawn. When he was at his personal performance peak, it was a time when not a lot of people were watching. 1996 and 1997 for HBK is the beginning and the end for any discussion as to who the greatest in ring performer of all time is, in my obviously biased opinion (but hey we're talking opinions here right?). But had it not been for his return, he would have fallen to the wayside as a legend who ultimately is forgotten about. If Shawn didn't come back, he would be where Bret Hart is. A large loyal fanbase, but rarely mentioned with the likes of Hogan, Austin or Rock by people outside of the IWC (or Canada). Shawn's second half has been littered with AMAZING performances, and if you ask me to point to the best match Shawn Michaels has ever had, I'd say Taker at Mania in a heartbeat. But at the end of the day, for me, nothing can touch who Shawn Michaels was for the mid 90's. In my eyes he redefined what a wrestler could be...it went from strong men doing scripted match to artists telling stories. He simply was; the Showstopper.
