SCHLOMEY REVIEWS WWE TLC 2010
Quote:
Intercontinental Championship Ladder Match Kofi Kingston vs Jack Swagger vs Dolph Ziggler What a good choice for the opener. 3 guys that time and time again put on high quality PPV matches. The gimmick was very favorable for all 3 of the men as Kofi is known to be skilled on the ladder, Swagger was a MITB winner and Ziggler has at least given a couple nice ladder spots during previous MITB matches. The action was fast and the spots overall were really good. A great match with the "I hope the rest of the show follows this quality" feeling. I am USUALLY not a fan of gimmicky match endings but the flawless transition really felt REAL as if the title slipped between the fingers of the 2 grapplers on top the ladder. Very believable ending if I say so myself. Winner - Dolph Ziggler Match Rating - 8 piledrivers on a steel chair out of 10. Diva Tag Team Tables Match Nattie Neidhart & Beth Phoenix vs LayCool My expectations were surprisingly high for this encounter. First you have LayCool. Apart from being obnoxious and annoying they have vastly improved this past year with in ring work as well as playing on the audience. Then you have Nattie and Beth who are almost equally as impressive and strong as they are sexy. The match met and slightly exceeded my expectations, which were rare and unusually high. The set up for the finish was a bit choppy but I loved when the table didn't break under their weight and Nattie had to do a froggette splash to take them out. Kudos ladies on the first really enjoyable PAY PER VIEW QUALITY Diva match in centuries! Winners: Nattie Neidhart & Beth Phoenix Match Rating: 7 chokeslams through a table out of 10. World Tag Team Championships Match Kozlov & Marella vs The Nexus The only NON gimmick match on the card. Honestly forgot this match was going to happen and could care less about it. I laughed at a few spots which, I guess, was the point...But one has to wonder why The Nexus is getting involved in shit comedy angles and losing to the lowest card roster members. The match, however with out thinking about that stuff, was actually kind of fun. Winners: Santino Marella & Kozlov via DQ Match Rating: 5 headbutts on the top rung of a ladder out of 10. Number 1 Contenders Ladder Match Sheamus vs John Morrison Expectations were very high for this match considering their last 2 outings have been outstanding in my opinion. I was not dissapointed here as this is easily the best match of the night, so far. The psychology of Sheamus in this match impressed me as he used his head instead of just his fists for a change. Morrison's high spots are always a treat but equally as impressive was his selling. Overall best use of the set and weaponry thus far into the show. Winner: John Morrison Match Rating: 10 broken Spanish announce tables out of 10. WWE Championship Tables Match The Miz vs Randy Orton Again, expectations very high. This is a match I have wanted to see since The Miz came out and ran his mouth to Orton several months ago. I was a little bit nervous going in to this match knowing what they have to follow and knowing Orton's track record for boring performances in gimmick matches. He is an outstanding 1 on 1 wrestler but I have noticed with gimmick matches, us as the audience expect more octane than psychology and Orton rarely goes above and beyond inside the confines of a gimmick match. The match, however, was fairly explosive. Nice to see The Miz pull an extraordinary performance out of Orton within the parameters of the tables gimmick. The false finish was brilliant and equally as brilliant was the restart and actual finish. Kudos for the new WWE writers for giving us excitement, momentary confusion and for making people actually contrast emotions. Winner: The Miz Match Rating: 9 Rey Mysterio ladder botches out of 10. World Heavyweight Championship T.L.C Match Alberto Del Rio vs Rey Mysterio vs Kane vs Edge A bit hesitant throwing 2 guys into the world title match out of nowhere, especially when the reason was because one of the guys is working injured. However, this main event quality match was very well done. I totally enjoyed every moment of the match. From the slow start, to the teamwork, to the ladder spots, to the table and high impact spots all the way to the finish. I especially appreciated Alberto Del Rio's performance throughout and the finale ladder dive through the table was taking like a true champ. I was happy with the outcome and happy that all 4 men put on quality performances. Glad to see Mysterio not call it in for a change and put it all out there. Winner: Edge Match Rating: 8 con-chair-tos out of 10. Main Event Chairs Match John Cena vs Wade Barrett Nice to see that this match is deemed more important than the World Heavyweight AND WWE Championships. Not. Anyways, the match itself was rather boring and nothing I haven't seen from Cena a million times before. I really thought since they let this match go on last that CM Punk was going to be revealed as the GM or even go in and attack John Cena and claim that is who he was takling about on RAW at the Slammys. But no, just a standard John Cena match to kill the feud. The show should have ended with Miz or Edge as both of those matches were great and had meaning...a feud blow off that should have happened 2 months ago isn't as important to me as a title. Winner: John Cena Match Rating: 5 frog splashes from the top of a ladder out of 10. Quote:
