Lara, I hope you're just down in the dumps because you're still recovering. Maybe in the Middle East and Africa...and obviously the Vatican and maybe China...maybe they believe that.

In North America we have a proud tradition of being the victim, even when there is no call for it. The prevailing cultural attitudes towards crimes against women is thankfully negative. Is there still ignorance? Of course, and as long as we're human there always will be.

I was overstating the issue for effect. I do feel there is still very much a rape culture in North America (not necessarily always overt) but that's a discussion not for the wrestling forum.
