Alright... there's two different definitions of "wrestler". An outside kayfabe definition and an inside kayfabe definition. The first one is the one we usually use. That's the one Bryan's kinda breaking the fourth wall and mentioning when he talks about Cena "not being a real wrestler". It has to be. Within kayfabe, Cena constantly wins titles and big matches and thus is probably the best wrestler in the world.
Cena is trying to keep kayfabe going by countering Bryan's semi-shoot on his wrestling skills with "You're wrong. I have been WRESTLING all over the world for 12 years." Now with that being said, how the fuck can you get mad at CENA for "trying to be the underdog" in a promo where he simply defends himself after Bryan basically tells him he's not a great wrestler AND THEN tells Bryan he's not as good as other guys he's beaten AND THEN has Bryan say he doesn't even respect his skills enough to practice his crazy ancient Japanese technique on him. In any world other than "Bryan can do no wrong so I must blindly try to blame the other guy because I'm unhappy with something" world, that's Bryan trying to put himself above Cena and Cena trying to put himself and his past opponents above Bryan. Where does "Dammit! Cena trying to make himself the underdog!" come in?? |

Yeah, if you take everything in kayfabe as complete canon, then sure, within the fictional constraints of their characters and their world, Cena is the best kayfabe-wrestler because he wins titles and matches all the time.
The problem is that in a program like this, kayfabe isn't completely up and frankly shouldn't be completely up. I don't have to be a cynical internet-smark-type to recognize patterns and trends in the show, and for a significant portion of his WWE career, the pattern was that Daniel Bryan was the guy that everyone liked but didn't get to win matches because he wasn't the guy that Vince and company wanted to push. Hell, that's why Vince is in this program in the first place-- his character coming down and saying Bryan can't be Champion because he's small and funny-looking is basically an extension of WWE Creative's attitude towards Bryan for years before hitting it big with the "YES!" thing. No serious person totally buys into kayfabe all the time when they're watching the show, or thinks that wins and losses have anything to do with a wrestler's actual athletic ability [EDIT: Even Cena doesn't buy into kayfabe all the time either, since he routinely pokes fun at his using the "Five Moves of Doom" and whatnot while trolling on Cena-bashers]. And while getting the crowd to chant "YES!" with him all the time played a big part in making him more popular, the fact that Bryan routinely has had the best match of the night on virtually every show for the better part of a year now, the fact that he's blatantly and clearly got more love for the art of wrestling than Cena, is what makes him the crowd favorite. And having Cena counter that with pure kayfabe, trying to shut down Bryan by saying "I AM THE BEST WRESTLER BECAUSE I WIN ALL THE MATCHES," comes off as disingenuous and frankly insulting. Also, fuck you for implying that I'm 'blindly following' a wrestler that I like and criticizing another wrestler for saying something stupid. |

I didn't say you were blindly following him. I said you were blindly blaming someone else for something you find wrong as to not have to knock Bryan.
My point is that you get pissed at Cena making himself out out be the underdog as if Bryan flat out saying "I'm better than you" doesn't do just that and Cena saying "You're not as good as my past opponents" doesn't do the exact opposite of that. You're cherry picking to make Cena seem like he was just ruining everything while ignoring whatever you need to make it seem like Bryan was perfect. And how is it insulting for Cena, in character, to say "I am the best because I win all the time"? That's ridiculous. You're blasting a wrestler for saying in a promo that he's great because he's able to win. Going into a match that both guys are trying to win. I mean... even with the kayfabe-line blurred, Bryan is also "trying to win". That's the important thing to both guys as opposed to "trying to be better at the art of wrestling". |

QUESTION OF THE WEEK: Do you like Orton as the "corporate champion?" Why or why not? Do you think anybody else would be better suited for this role?
We're starting a new thing where we have a question of the week and worthy responses will be read on the next podcast. Don't be a dick. Give a couple of sentences/short paragraph |

There really wasn't a top heel before he turned. You have Del Rio, but he is already the World Heavyweight Champion. Brock is in another category since he is never around. Who else is there? Turning Orton gives you that missing top heel. Another point, if he is a Corporate Champ, he might start wearing pants. |

My answer would have required different booking for the last two years, but - had they not completely neutered him - Wade Barrett would be perfect in this role. He's got the "superstar look," the "superstar build," and he's never been there before. He could have been the "reformed" rebel that HHH took under his wing. He sees himself in Wade, a guy who literally started at the bottom of the roster, played the game, took his lumps, but proved himself both as a rebellious leader of men and as a "company guy." HHH could brag that the first English WWE Champion would be great for business internationally, as well. |

I'm fine with it. His character has an arrogance to him that makes it seem like he joined because he didn't have much else to do and 'of course, why would they not ask me?'
Orton hasn't been very interesting in a long time. I think his last feud with HHH pretty much derailed all interest in his character so it's kind of fitting that teaming up with HHH has the potential to redeem his character. |

Hot yoga is literally yoga done in a really really hot room. They crank the heat, and you sweat out all the toxins or whatever while you stretch. Had an ex-girlfriend who used to do that and it certainly worked for her.

Whoever said that thing about Daniel Bryan not finding anyone to fight the corporation, but here comes JOHN CENA.... that is such a fucking bleak way to look at things.

Realistically, Orton is probably the best guy for the role given the current roster. With that said though, he lacks something. He's easy to hate in this role, but he doesn't scream "corporate." Mainly because I can't picture Randy putting on the suit and doing all the stuff a "corporate" champ in this day and age would do.
This is why I love the idea of it being Cena... A guy who doesn't have to change. He is the face of the company, he does all the PR stuff, he busts his ass for the company. Cena "cares" about the business. I don't buy Orton as caring about the business, only himself. So with that in mind, I think the only guy on the roster I could see better filling the role, oddly enough, would be The Miz. His face turn has, no one cares about him, yet he is the guy that throws on the suit and goes to all the premiers, etc. If you cut off the "edge" he had as a heel before, and make him a blatant corporate tool, it'd work. Plus, The Miz would need the "corporation" backing him more than someone like Orton. It's more of a symbiotic relationship. The Miz needs them, and they need the Miz. With Orton, I get the feeling they need him, but he doesn't need them. |

Orton does need them though because they want him to be the corporate champion and therefore as long as they're on his side, they will do whatever it takes to keep him as the corporate champion. It's beneficial to both parties and all the heels can still be selfish dicks looking out for themselves and their business.

The Miz doesn't belong anywhere near the main event right now, let alone in a dominant top heel role.

That's the nice part of it, he doesn't have to be "dominant" himself. He has HHH, Vince, Steph, and The Shield backing him. He can be obnoxious, and obviously "not good enough" to be there, but he keeps winning because of them. It's heel heat 101. Maybe 201. |

Going down the roster page, kinda slim pickings. Hernandez doesn't bring anything to the table other than one of the most contrived spots in wrestling currently with his stupid ramp dive. Only spot more contrived is Christian's jumping over the top rope to the outside to deliver a slap. King Mo probably will never wrestle for the company. Anderson annoys the fuck out of me, personally. Other than those 3, I see value for everyone on the page, even Manik/Suicide/Depressed/Moody/Content. |

Would have still released Jesse Sorensen but would have done a better job of explaining why. TNA had no desire to ever medically clear him to return to the ring and he started to care less about his management job even though he was getting paid more as part of his injury compensation. Unless Spike and/or Bellator was paying for both Tito and Rampage, would have tossed out both because realistically neither is really going to help TNA and are money drains. Probably would target more on the management side than wrestler side considering they've been the source for the majority of TNA's real problems and issues. |

Hogan, Bischoff, Tenay, Tazz, JB.
Time for a clean slate not just in terms of management but announcers also. You can change who runs things all you want but if the announcers are the same it appears to the public that nothing has changed. I'd find cheaper replacements for Tenay and Taz (That Todd Kennely guy wasn't that bad maybe him and some retiring wrestler on the cheap) . I think it's time for Tenay to go because he reminds me too much of WCW. Taz was willing to go back to WWE, so they should cut him for being a disloyal ass. If Jeremy Borash still wants to be in the behind the scenes stuff (and announcing house shows) he can stay but with a pay cut. I'm sure Bellator and Spike are fronting most of the bill for Tito and Rampage. So, I don't buy the idea that people released were cut to pay them. Panda is probably just wanting to lower their costs since the ratings aren't improving and there's no reason to have a large roster with a large payroll and still get 1.0's. |
