The Rock vs. John Cena- WrestleMania 28: Will the hype die off by then?
I dunno, I think a year is too long to keep the build-up going. Like alot can happen in a year and a year is alot in a WWE calender.

Will people's attention spans be long enough to wait an entire year? Like I think they could miss the boat with this by waiting too long.

I'm not digging this whole respect angle that they're going with right now. And if they keep this respect angle going for an entire year, it could get boring after a while. I don't wanna see Rock shake Cena's hand for an entire year. The only thing I could see them doing, to keep this angle fresh for an entire year is if one of them turn on eachother, or we see Rock be the Vince McMahon to Cena's Austin by becoming the RAW GM and making Cena's life a living hell. Or if Cena finally turns heel. I prefer the latter option.

It's going to be a difficult balance to make sure that the hype isn't killed by him being on TV too much or not enough.

This decision was made quickly probably because of how much WrestleMania bombed this year. Cena was planned to be The Undertaker's 20th WrestleMania opponent before this came around. I hope they don't fuck this up because I was really looking forward to Cena getting Tombstoned in defeat. This will be Cena's first WrestleMania not fighting for a title, so even if it sucks at least Cena won't be champion.

Oh yeah, I know he won't be on TV for a year, it's just so much else could happen within this year, that when the time comes to "refresh people's memory" that Rock vs. Cena is supposed to happen (come WrestleMania), the whole thing might lose it's appeal

Like if they did Austin vs. Goldberg today. Nobody really cares about that dream match anymore; the time to do that was in 1998. Like, they could still do that, but it won't be as interesting had they done it WHEN THE IRON WAS HOT. The ship has already sailed TYPE DEAL.

Let's say in a years time, people will be dying to see Orton vs. Cena at WrestleMania, but they gotta scrap it because The Rock made a match with Cena already.

This is stupid.

The Rock won't be on TV on a regular basis, but Cena will and he's got to have some feud going on in the meantime. The sad thing is, whatever feud that would be, it would still feel insignificant as fuck.

Maybe it's cos the pay-off won't be for a year. Or I don't think they'll plan it very well. Or maybe cos I'm not a big fan of either guy. I dunno, just not really bothered about it.

When did WWE say they were gonna do Taker v Cena? And when did they say that Rock v Cena won't be for a title?

I love how rumours become fact if they are repeated enough times.

I for one really enjoyed that WCW themed Hall of Fame last weekend.

What. They don't even need to build hype for the year. Expect this story to go on the back burner for a long time. I mean, it's a year.

The hype will die down because it will not be hyped for the entire year. You should probably just expect a revival of sorts a few months before WM.

I really doubt what they have in mind is showing John Cena and Rock clips every week, or reading off tweets every single week. Cena is going to go off and feud with someone else.

I'm a lot more interested in who's getting a title shot next. I think they're going to continue to feed the hungry Miz a bit before pumping the brakes a little, but we'll see. Might even be Cena again.

As far as Cena being a lock to not win the rumble, which you didn't necessarily state but others have, is a bit naive. He might not, probably not, but it's not a lock, neither is Cena not holding the title. I was a big skeptic about this whole situation with The Rock, it made no sense for me to have Rock burying him constantly, especially if he isn't sticking around. I like this idea much better. The handshake was necessary.

Who's going to win the match? I really have no idea. I think that depends on what John Cena does within the next year. We'll see, one day.

I like the fact that they're promoting this match a year in advance because it means the creative team is finally thinking ahead. Hopefully they have a plan on how to build this match throughout the year - not every week, since people will get burned out on it - but every month or so, have some sort of reminder about Cena/Rock.

If you look back at the Sting/Hogan build toward Starrcade in 97, that lasted a year plus some and was a huge hit. By the time Starrcade rolled around people were salivating to see the match and see Hogan get his ass kicked by Sting. I think that if WWE did it right, they could have the same result and by March 2012 we'll have people salivating to see Rock kick Cena's ass all over the ring.

I love how (in kayfabe) Rock isn't technically a contracted Superstar, yet here he is booking himself into the main event of next years Wrestlemania.

But on a serious note, I don't think they're gonna hype it for the entire year, would be suicide if they did. They'll likely drop it for a while now and pick it up again around the Rumble next year. Or they'll drop it completely and expect us to forget it ever happened.

Really isn't much hype especially with the IWC, we're all too worried about how they're gonna do a storyline and most people are probably gonna bitch about what they do with that anyways since no one is happy with what WWE does now days.

Watch, when the time comes everyone is gonna talk about what WWE should've done and everyone is gonna have their opinion and will complain about what they screwed up on.

They should have just tried to pull it off at WM27 all along or Summerslam for that matter. Announcing it a year ahead of time made me pretty much not care. They might as well have just announced it 6 months before next years Mania. Plus Rock probably wont be around til the new year anyways so.

The hype will die off, because it makes every match Cena (or the Rock) has from here to next year is moot. Neither guy will win the Royal Romble and not that they should but now we know for sure they won't.

Either way the hype for Wrestlemania is going to pick up around Royal Rumble, so it's a whole new ballgame when that time comes.

It will of course die down between now and then, and it should. The only way they could cash the hype is if they literally promoted it every week all over the programming for a year. But they won't.

I don't think that means they can't or shouldn't do some stuff during the year to contribute towards it though.
Maybe have them even get into the ring together as part of a tag team. Or a special ref gimmick.

And once Rumble rolls around, they can actually get The Rock out there and if anything interest will pick up to see how it all unfolds and comes together, just like any other Wrestlemania.

You're also looking at the strong possibility of a heel turn from one of them along the lines, which would change the whole dynamic and add a lot of interest.

WWE are blowing the Rock big time. I wonder if this was the only way to get Rock to agree to come back.

WWE will either hype the shit out of this every fucking show (and replaying everything on Smackdown) or "injure" one of them so they can keep quiet about it for months. I mean, how many live appearances will Rock have?

I'm thinking it will be the former since this is WWE and they tell who to like, and what to be excited for.

The most likely way to keep this feud somewhat interesting, without killing it (more than announcing it already has done) would be, as has been suggested, having The Rock as RAW GM or something similar.
He doesn't need to be around for every show. He can play around with Cena - or he can play it fair, so that when Cena does do something nasty in the end, it will signify a heel turn...

Meh.. Announcing it now, if they will be playing it straight, is stupid.
