I won't call it a horrible raw, but the ending really saved it for me. I think it would be awesome if the days of Mr. McMahon on screen are finally over. As much as I've enjoyed him, it's time for a different direction. I love the fact that we still don't know the fate of the title at the moment. I really can't wait to see how it all plays out. Overall it was a half-decent Raw.

I knew that after last night almost anything on Raw would be disappointing, but it felt like tonight may be the beginning of the ball being dropped. Sure it's only week one, but IMO it doesn't look like this is headed to anything we haven't seen before.

Still holding out hope since everything happened JUST last night, but my hopes aren't as high as they were just over 3 hours ago

This was a pretty good RAW. I don't think the ball is being dropped at all. This angle is great and they haven't fucked it up yet, booked it near flawlessly actually. WWE at least deserves the benefit of the doubt after the brilliant last couple of weeks. RAW was solid, lots of wrestling but too much Rey Mysterio.

Has the anonymous RAW GM ever been involved in any of HHH's angles? At this point it's gotta be either him or Stephanie.

A bunch of solid matches, a title match set for next week that even without any "shenanigans" should be a great match, the chance of aforementioned shenanigans involving Punk and the belt (which could well be diminished now and Punk may in fact be taking a while off since his leaving with the belt was effectively all put on Vince tonight, only he's white hot and people want to pay to see him atm and the longer he leaves it, the less that is the case/"strike while the iron is hot") and the start of a new "era" in terms of the power structure/Triple H's character with what was heading in a hammy direction at one point but was quite possibly very real in terms of the outcome which is the end of Vince McMahon as an on-screen character. Wonder how many stockholders/financial press that don't follow the product are going to have a bit of a worry about that over the next 24 hours.

Have Todd Grisham shadow Punk wherever he goes like some paparazzi scum to keep him on TV for a couple of weeks, HHH can throw out the tournament and crown himself WWE championship and try to goad Punk into coming back for Summerslam. Have Punk see it and he does come back as the savior of wrestling.

A few tasty snippets like HHH was the anonymous GM and he was the one who set up the #1 contenders match to give Punk the chance to leave the company with the belt so he could get rid of Vince and give him the power, as well as a fantastic Summerslam match and I'll have full confidence in WWE again.

That crowd was cancerous.

That being said, REALLY GOOD RAW. Good matches, the way Vince did his announcement built for next week really well, Cena's promo ACTUALLY had an effect on me and is slowly endearing me to him. The Triple H promo was fantastic and I think Vince's curtain call could not have been done any other way. I'm excited for next week.

Late to the Party:

-Funny how "Future Endeavored" went from being a sarcastic comment about being fired to a now generic term for just that.

- I was going to comment about A-Ry's half crab, then post a picture of Lance Storm, but that joke has been used better elsewhere in this thread.

- RODRIGUEZ!

- Great, another 17 on 17 Divas match where Gail Kim doesn't get ring time. LOL'd at one of the Bellas almost tripping Melina (Perez) with her cape-thingy. Also LOL'd at Cole calling Melina (Rouka) by her real name in the match instead of Rosa... you know, because people having the same first name is "confusing".

- I don't see the reason for all the "disappointment". Solid RAW with ACTUAL MATCHES through the night and not an overabundance of skits. Great way to follow up a pretty awesome PPV. I will admit now that it didn't go down like I thought, (I took one look at the tourney brackets and thought "Kofi beats Alberto and will take it all, only to be taken down by a vengeful Alberto of the River who cashes in and beats a 3 match worn-down opponent") but that's a good thing. I get to go on a ride, and there's so much potential setup from top to bottom, such as potential "re-negotiations" with Punk, seeing where the "knee injury" thing goes with Miz, what's next for the US Champ, Hunter being the new on-screen Vince... and we haven't even touched Smackdown yet.

- If this is the way we retire Mr. McMahon the on-screen character, I'm all for it. He goes out not with a bang (exploding limo), but with a whimper (as in, crying... and a chant of "Thank you, Vince").

Anything after Money in the Bank would be a let down. I felt like this was a GREAT follow-up though. The (presumably) one night tournament was great. Had a classic feel to it. And of course the end was huge. Awesome Raw. I loved it.

*Noid-esq Post Alert*

It's just an idea that came into my head, which I know most likely won't happen.

But Punk could come back with a new look belt and say he did what he said he would do and change the belt, he'll probably then start something with Triple H and go on about how he was right about Vince's doofus son-in-law taking over, etc.

Or just do it all via Twitter.

Then Triple H will constantly goad CM Punk into wanting to face him, but because Punk's not signed a contract, he can't, so he signs a contract that's effective for one night only at SummerSlam. We see CM Punk vs Triple H at SummerSlam in what will be Triple H's last match. (Maybe WWE Championship vs Career) Triple H loses in true retirement match fashion which, if it was Title vs Career, crushes the hopes of the WWE Championship coming back to the WWE and Triple H is gone.

Either way, Triple H loses the match and after the match, Alberto Del Rio cashes in his Money In The Bank Contract and wins the WWE Championship, thus returning it to the WWE and Punk leaves the company empty handed.

Possibly, Vince comes out, says Triple H was never in charge and it was all just a plan to get CM Punk to sign a contract so the WWE Championship could be able to return to the WWE. (Via the MitB Winner)

Out of all that, we get....

An intriguing storyline
A new look for the WWE Championship
Alberto Del Rio's "Destiny" fulfilled
CM Punk vs Triple H
Triple H retired
CM Punk leaving the WWE for a while as he's feeling burned out

Ending was really huge and I can't make out whether or not people are lost on its significance or are trying to seem "emotionless" by not acknowledging what it means.

they could've done better with the matches, but that was the most stacked Raw i've seen in a long time. They should've spread the matches out over two Raws if they weren't planning on finishing up last night. Give the undercard a little more time to shine and keep the pace up and good things will happen. Also loved the ending. So many ways they can go from there. Trips needs an eventual heel turn now.

They were for the most part great matches, I loved Kofi and Del Rio especially.

While it's a great ending and again makes me want to watch next week (is that 4 or 5 weeks straight? Not sure when the last time I can say that is.) I don't think it has too much "significance". Vince'll be back, this is the guy who's come back from a limo blowing up while he was in it.

I think simple is best at this point. I've only read the report, but obvious booking would be for the main event next week to be The Miz vs. Rey Mysterio for the vacant WWE Title. John Cena also brings it to Triple H's attention that he technically has a rematch clause. Mysterio wins the main event, becoming the new WWE Champion, but before he even gets to technically touch the belt, Alberto Del Rio cashes in and thus becomes the new WWE Champion.

Mysterio is owed a rematch; John Cena is owed a rematch -- there's your SummerSlam main event: Alberto Del Rio defending the WWE Title in a Triple Threat Match against Rey Mysterio and John Cena. Now, you may not think that is special, but when you consider how well Cena works in Triple Threats, as has Del Rio and Mysterio in the past, you're in for a slobberknocker. Couple that with the blow-off to Randy Orton vs. Christian in a No Holds Barred Match, and you already have a pretty strong card.

If Punk is ready to return (say he likes how hot he is, and the WWE offers him the right deal), you can have Triple H challenge Punk to show up at SummerSlam. He can say he has a few words for Punk, and he promises no shenanigans. If Punk agrees, you could even have Del Rio cash-in on Punk (save his interference and have Cena vs. Mysterio), and then you have two WWE Champions on RAW, setting up Night of Champions (where Cena ironically unifies his new title belt with the one he created).

I also have a feeling that RAW will be putting forward Kelly Kelly vs. Beth Phoenix and The Miz vs. Alex Riley in some sort of blow-off as RAW matches for the show, which is three right there.

What you just described is pretty close to what TNimpact* did a couple months ago, where they had a champ, #1 contender, a guy who was stripped (ergo, never lost the title), and a guy who never got his rematch.

Your scenario is just less clusterfucky.

The only other option they really go with is Del Rio vs. Mysterio or The Miz vs. Mysterio with Cena vs. someone else lower on the card. Which could work.

Also, Vince is about to turn 66. He doesn't even have enough of a life span left for anything he does to be insignificant.

Not sure what everyone is complaining about here.

The Punk situation deserves to be dragged out a bit here. It hasn't even been a full day since he "left the company" and I think not mentioning him, and letting the crowd work itself into a frenzy will pay off in the long run. Give it time and let it build.

As far as the matches go, not exactly what gives on the complaints here either? I'm pretty sure I have heard many times that people want them to bring back the King of the Ring PPV and have the tournament in one night. Essentially that is what happened here tonight, only this was to crown a new champion. People are really complaining that they had some of the top workers go out and actually perform? All of the matches were decent, and if I recall correctly, all ended with a clean finish. Considering that people have been complaining about not enough wrestling/bull shit finishes, I am surprised that more people weren’t amped to see what seems like a change in direction.

Was this the best Raw of all time? No, but I think it was better than a majority of the crap we have seen over an over for the last 5-6 years.

I really have no clue what matches you were all watching. I think standards must have taken a beating over the years. It's not so much as a complaint as a lack of understanding why people are praising bad to mediocre matches.

It's an opinion, not a checklist of things that happened or did not happen to make a great match. No-ones saying there where any MOTY candidates here, just some good, entertaining matches.

Bunch of FAGS as usual complaining about everything. I you all nonetheless.

Just praying for the WWE stocks to be steady, that will pretty much determine this storyline.

Former WWE star Sean Waltman went on Twitter following RAW and said that Vince McMahon really is stepping down from his job as Chairman and CEO:

"The text [Triple H] sent me today makes much more sense now. That was the real deal, that last 5 or however many minutes."

Waltman also noted that WWE should "careful that this doesn't really affect the stock price."

WWE's stock is already down over 30% this year.
Although, I don't necessarily believe Waltman at this point, I've gotta admit those tears looked pretty real to me, and if they weren't legit tears, great job and kudos to HHH and Vince for crying on cue last night.

I feel like Punk is definitely gone for a period, and they are dropping the ball. He is on fire and the biggest ticket in town, and now we get HHH as the CHairman and Cena not being fired.

But it still keeps next week's RAW with some suspence. As in what is Triple H gonna do now that he's in charge, what about Cena, finals of the tournament.

Next week should be ok.

Darren Rovell, a sports business reporter for CNBC, noted on his Twitter account that last night's angle on Raw in which Vince McMahon was relieved of his duties of WWE chief and replaced by his son-in-law, Triple H, may cause issues with WWE stock.

"The No. 1 material risk against WWE stock is Vince McMahon leaving the business," Rovell wrote. "Tonight's plot could be an SEC violation."

I know I'll get a lot of heat for admitting this, but I really thought the VKM/Triple H thing last night was legit.

That is, until I woke up this morning and started reading a lot of the reports on-line referring to all of it as an angle or storyline.

It so was done so well that I and a lot of other people thought it was real!

Why would you get heat for admitting that? Unless he changes his mind for whatever reason down the line or it's part of an upcoming angle, Vince McMahon the TV character is gone and Triple H is now the most powerful guy in terms of the on-screen product in WWE. That's how I took it.
