Before Cartoon Network added Adult Swim for their late night block, I used to love watching their late night black and white cartoons before sleeping.
I forgot what the actual show or block was called though. |

Never see them on British TV. Probably somewhere on satelite TV, though.

Is this a rant coming up? I don't know, but it's my thoughts anyway.
I was just reading Lola Bunny's Wikipedia page and saw some crazy ass drawing of her that was from "The Looney Tunes Show". I was immediately "shocked" and curious as I'd never heard any news about any new Looney Tunes, so I decided to read about the new show. I then watched the intro to it that left me angry and a feeling like my childhood had just been raped. I wasn't pleased. After watching it, I thought it would be fair to watch some of the show before actually judging it. So I watched this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmAIts-bv7U (Embedding disabled by request) After that, I was unsure. I don't know if I like it or not. I'm not a fan of the art style, I know that. The voices are ok, but not great, though I did have a grin on my face when Daffy Duck was trying to guess Bugs Bunny's birthday. But as far as the "comedy factor" of it goes, that was it really. I also watched Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner, which is now all CGI. I'm not really a fan of CGI. I like it, but I don't like the way almost everything is CGI these days and also stuff like this, where classics are being redone in CGI, though the Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner style of comedy is still there and that's all that matters really. I chuckled at the video when the tanker exploded and it's still the same as the classics, but just CGI. |

CGI is the future for the most part whether you like it or not, but if it can be done THAT well as in the Wile E Coyote short, which amazed me when I first watched it, then that's no big problem. I read a John K blog post (here's a link to his blog btw, it's a great read: http://johnkstuff.blogspot.com/) where he pointed out how lazy animators have become due to computer animation, but a master animator can still produce a real old school feel in the digital era.

Oh yeah, I've heard the same at my lectures from College and the ones now at University.
I'm sudying Computer Arts at University, so it is all pretty ironic that I'm not a fan of everything becoming CGI. Though to be fair, I am wanting to take the path of modeling in games, not CGI animating in films. But at University, the first thing we learn is the absolute basics of animation. The principles of animation, the use of lightboxes and so on. I've made a short animation using the traditional animation methods and honestly, it was very good, fun to do and satisfying to watch the finished product. If I were to go down the path of animation, I'd chose to study traditional animation, even though it is pretty much dying out now. It's hard work, but it's the good kind of hard work and to be honest, it's nothing compared to animating CGI. To me, I find it to be so hard and tedious. One of the reasons being that you have to create a working rig before you can actually animate. I hate creating rigs, which is where I guess John K is correct about lazy animators, because I'd much rather use a pre-made rig and movements, over actually doing everything from scratch. So you can see why I'm choosing to go down the path of video game modeling and not animation. Thanks for the link by the way. I'm going to read it now. ![]() |

I was watching some of the original Tom and Jerrys recently including The Cat Concerto, which is a masterpiece of music-led animation:
But then I read about a very similar Bugs Bunny cartoon from the same year called Rhapsody Rabbit, which caused MGM and WB to accuse each other of plagiarism. I'd never seen this one, so I decided to check it out (I can't find an English version, sorry, but it's got practically no speech in it). It was never actually revealed who copied who, where the leak came from, or if it was just a weird coincidence. The Cat Concerto got much more acclaim though, winning an Academy Award, while Rhapsody Rabbit wasn't even nominated. Also notice that The Cat Concerto was rushed to completion, there are a LOT of re-used scenes when Jerry is being knocked around the piano interior. |

God, I loved those trippy experimental Looney Tunes from the 60s.
On a similar note: And this one's MGM rather than WB, but it's one of my favorites: Last edited by Nowhere Man; 07-26-2011 at 03:28 AM. |

My favorite is Taz. Here's the only episodes the golden era featuring the devil himself...
Sorry, but's there's no full version of Bedeviled Rabbit - 1957 Devil May Hare - 1954 Ducking The Devil - 1957 Bill Of Hare - 1962 Dr. Devil And Mr. Hare - 1964 |

I have a few classics I may discuss later but I wanna say the "New Looney Tunes" show isn't that bad, especially if you compare it to 'other' shows they have on now (looking at you Problem Solverz and the non Cartoon shows on CARTOON Network) The "Merrie Melodies" albeit short tend to be fun and somewhat catchy songs...two of the best ones:
