Actually, since we're discussing Daniel Bryan, The Undertaker and WrestleMania, here is a potential scenario for WrestleMania XXVIII:
* Daniel Bryan keeps his Money in the Bank contract, which confirms him as a challenger to the World Heavyweight Champion, Randy Orton. * The Miz wins the 2012 Royal Rumble, and thus gets a title match of his choosing. While he seems like he could fit into John Cena vs. The Rock, he decides to instead opt to jump to SmackDown! and redeem himself from his run as "The Host" there. So our confirmed SmackDown! World Title match at Mania XXVIII is Randy Orton (c) vs. The Miz vs. Daniel Bryan for the World Heavyweight Title. The history between The Miz and Daniel Bryan is pretty evident, as is Orton's history with The Miz. It'd make a pretty compelling three-way storyline, in my opinion. Plus, it allows Daniel Bryan to win the World Title without making Orton submit, which can set-up a huge one-on-one match between the two at Extreme Rules 2012. * CM Punk returns to the WWE under one condition: He receives a WrestleMania match of his choosing. One that will prove he is "The Best in the World," and one that will prove he can shatter the view people have on professional wrestling. That match? Against The Undertaker. Punk could sell that match, and the history between the two is actually pretty appropriate -- CM Punk was billed as the first man to get a submission victory over The Undertaker (ironically in a screwjob ordered by Vince McMahon). Segments with Punk calling The Undertaker an "old man" and symbol of the "old guard" could really boil people's blood. Punk could say he did the unthinkable when he walked out of the WWE with the WWE Championship, and he'll do the same again when he walks out of WrestleMania as the man who made The Undertaker tap his fabled streak away. * And of course you have John Cena vs. The Rock for the WWE Championship. Although, I do believe that match is big enough to warrant itself not being for the WWE Championship. I think you could easily build up a match between two guys like Alberto Del Rio and John Morrison, or Del Rio and Kofi Kingston, that could get people really excited and provide another "big match" for Mania. We'll just throw that out there, actually. * Del Rio vs. Kofi begins on RAW tomorrow night. Cena tells Triple H he technically has a rematch, so Hunter signs Cena to face the winner of Rey Mysterio vs. The Miz -- which is won by Rey. Earlier in the night, Del Rio again loses to Kofi Kingston. Snapping after the match, Del Rio attacks Kofi from behind, and targets his arm -- putting Kofi Kingston out on the shelf. Heading into SummerSlam, Del Rio says he'll be watching SummerSlam from a sky box, and that he may choose to cash in on the winner of that match. Del Rio is interviewed by Josh Mathews during SummerSlam, and Del Rio says that he does plan to beat either John Cena or that chihuahua, Rey Mysterio tonight. Kofi Kingston then suddenly attacks Del Rio, and beats both him and Ricardo Rodriguez all over the sky box, in an attack that hopefully shows off the mean-streak that got Kofi so hot during his stuff with Randy Orton. Life goes on, and eventually Del Rio beats Kofi Kingston at a PPV like Hell in a Cell with assist from Rodriguez. Del Rio and Kofi both move on, never really finalising their issues (Triple H informs both guys it was their last match for the foreseeable future, or something of the like). Del Rio eventually cashes on John Cena or Rey Mysterio and wins the WWE Championship. At Elimination Chamber, Del Rio defends the WWE Title against Cena, while there is a RAW Chamber, with the stipulation being that Cena wins, the RAW Chamber winner gets a title shot post-WrestleMania, but if Del Rio wins, they face him for the title. Kofi Kingston wins the Chamber, and Del Rio beats Cena with some help from The Rock -- adding more personal issues to their Mania encounter. So we essentially get: WWE Championship Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. Kofi Kingston World Heavyweight Championship Randy Orton (c) vs. The Miz vs. Daniel Bryan John Cena vs. The Rock The Undertaker vs. CM Punk If you feel that Del Rio vs. Kofi is not Mania-worthy, you can just have Rock vs. Cena for the title. Whatever. |
