You know what I mean by great title reign. The matches are good, the feuds are good, the guy holding the belt really uses it to push himself forward or keep the crowd interested.
And I'm not talking about feuds where the belt changes back and forth a couple times so Orton and Christian don't count. Just talking about when the same guy/team is the champion for a while. The Miz's US title run before his main event push is the most recent example I can think of of a great title reign. Cody Rhodes has really made something out of his IC title reign, but I wouldn't say it's because of the title. Dolph Ziggler's become the best in ring talent around, but I wouldn't call his current run a great reign either. Felt like Air Boom was getting close before the "unpleasantness," so we'll see how that goes now that they're back in action. Also with apologies to Hasney, Mark Henry's WHC reign has been pretty "good" so far. Dunno if I'd call it great, but it's definitely better than I expected. And his matches haven't been bad either. Let's talk about this. |

About Mark Henry's run, if what was reported is true, that Brodus Clay came up with the "Hall of Pain" thing as an idea for himself and that WWE thought it was a great idea, yet had HENRY carry it out...DAMN.
Mark has had what I believe to be a good and somewhat surprising title reign, but if all that is true, that fucked up. Reminds me of the rumors of Owen Hart being slated originally to be "The Game", yet Triple H ran with that. |

Henry's WH Title reign is the closest thing we've seen to a great reign in a long time....I'd say since JBL beating Eddie.....

Well, if we're counting Ziggler and Rhodes' runs as "great runs whilst holding a title belt" but not as "great title reigns" and we're disqualifying Orton/Christian - and by that standard Punk/Cena - we've not left much to work with...

Mark Henry's reign has been the best in a while. The two clean wins over Orton were superbly done and they've managed to keep his feud with show pretty interesting while still letting Henry keep his dominant feel. The mini feud with Bryan possibly leading to an amazing David vs Goliath lead in to WrestleMania. All in all, I fell comfortable using the word "great" for his reign.

Ziggler's US reign. I have to say Mark Henry's World title reign has become surprisingly good. Remember fans pay more to see a face chase for the belt than a face with a belt.

That's the beauty of being able to have a great heel title reign. Constantly having faces chasing is always a good thing.

I think the miz's championship reign was great. He had a good feud with orton, and surprisingly lawler. Had an awesome, no pun intended, match with jomo. Kept Cena at bay for at least 2 months. And kept himself relevant during the whole "rock-cena focused wrestlemania". I know it was towards the end of his run but when he came out as the rock and laid out Cena, I was completely bought into him as a main eventer. There are so many good things that came from the miz during his run.
Also I don't think you cant count zigglers run. When he first really started to get hot, he was boasting being champion as the reasoning behind why he was about to take off. That kinda makes his reign all about the belt |

LOL so many people hated JBL's title run at the time, oh internet... Oh IWC
Don't forget JBL "wrestled" like 4 ppv main events with Batista, and only one was decent at best. This is a really tough question. I didn't really have much instinct other than "Shawn 96". But then I thought of Austin's "Smoking Skull" reign which was as equivilant as Hogan's first run and more significant than HBK or Bret Hart. Though he didn't hold the title all that long it was a great addition to the rejuvinated Ausint/McMahon feud which I feel is the best feud in wrestling history. Cena is up there with Bret and Michaels as far as great matches but not bigger than Austin in the importance of history. Another instinct I had was Jericho, but to be honest I may just be thinking of his last run in general as I don't remember who he won or lost it too. So, Austin. |

I must agree with you, because it was by the time he won the title for the first time that I was starting to watch wrestling. During that first reign, I was obsessively HOOKED on WWF so much that I recorded every show and would go insane if I didn't catch it. The hook loosened a bit when it started to slip into the PG Era. |

I really think that Mark Henry's been a pretty surprising World Heavyweight Champion. He's gone over some guys cleanly to make him look like he belongs in the main event, but even though Big Show has drawn/beaten him when they face lately, he still looks like a beast. Now, the reign hasn't really interested me, but as a monster heel, Henry is at least credible. The Great Khali never surpassed expectations like that, for example.
Dolph Ziggler and Cody Rhodes are both looking like amazing competitors with their run as champions, but I do have to agree that they don't really need to have the championships they have to do that. I would count them as great champions, though. I think CM Punk has the potential to have a great WWE Championship reign. I mean, the dude wins the belt by submission, which is a good start. Now he has the chance to defend it against two top heels in a TLC Match. Give him a win over John Cena at the Royal Rumble and I think you could pretty much call him a great WWE Champion. |

Seems his US Title reign hasn't been as good as I thought. His 5 month IC Title run was pretty good though. Good series with Kofi,, including a great Triple Threat Ladder Match at TLC 2010, a great run of matches versus US Champ Daniel Bryan, couple of good matches versus Kaval, eventually drops the title and moves into a programme with World Champion Edge (and going on to hold the WHC for 11 minutes 23 seconds). |

I'd consider Henry's reign as great considering Smackdown usually lacks a lot of the bigger quality names unlike RAW. Especially the real lack of big name faces outside of Orton for Smackdown in the main event level.
I'd argue Ziggler's reign should count considering the last great reign for the US title was the Miz even though Bryan had a long reign in between but didn't do anything with the belt. He has been having some great matches with a lot of them coming recently due to either his double duty on ppvs or because the WWE has put the focus on him (ex. Ziggler vs Orton). |
