They dont have anyone better in the minors at this point.
Well first of all, Vlad's DH #'s last year weren't THAT much better in way more ABs (13/63/.290 in 592 ab)...Betemit got those stats in only 323 ABs..but the best part is he also had 105 Ks in those 323 AB. I used to complain about Guerrero swinging at everything that even came close to the plate but he only struck out 56 times. They've already got one guy that could K 200 times in 600 abs (Reynolds). Betemit's never had more than 373 ABs in a season (and that was 2006 between the Braves and Dodgers). The one thing they do like is that he can play every position but Pitcher/Catcher, but as it stands he will likely be the regular DH, though he will play the field to spell whoever needs a day off so he could be a regular player and get 500+ ABs for the first time in his career.. |
