Also, I don't understand the strange little phenomenon on the internet that if a girl talks about video games or makes obscure or nostalgic pop culture references, it suddenly makes them a nerd and thus "more attainable".

It was the same with Mila Kunis when she announced she played World of Warcraft or something, she isn't more attainable just because she's into online gaming. Same goes for people who a bang into Zooey Deschanel because she's a bit quirky and she's "one of us!". No she's not, she's a good looking celebrity who's a bit mad, that's all. She's no more "one of us" than any other celebrity.

True, but I dont think its a matter of being "one of us" or more attainable, just that hot chicks that have brains are the most attractive populace and seem few and far between sometimes (Think back to the old flick Shallow Hal where only one chick was hot both IRL and when he saw people for who they really were). As far as the nostalgic/obscure references go, that shows excellent memory retention which is often associated with intelligence.
