The owners won the short term but I think the money differences from the CBA debates ended up being placed towards the pension and medical funds so in the end everyone benefits.

Owners wanted to just pocket the extra $1-2 billion but instead have that locked up for future spending at the cost of the players loosing that money upfront since they wanted it now. Same for the rookie scale since most of the money difference from the old and new one just got placed into other funds than only in the owners pocket.
