I love Jericho, but in my mind, his best time was in WCW with Ralphus. Maybe because I stopped watching wrestling and haven't really followed Jericho in WWE, but I'll never forget Jericho's WCW theme music and being escorted to the ring with Ralphus. He was my favorite mid-carder in WCW.
Jake is a living legend. I'm confident that if you conducted a random survey on the street, more random people would know of Jake the Snake than Jericho. Wrestlers are entertainers... the best are those whose memory goes down in the pages of history. Jake is one of the quintessential WWF characters.
