Wrestling Product vs Payable Value

As a wrestling fan of over 20 years, i've seen the product evolve from say your prayers, eat your vitamins, 24 inch pythons genre where its good guy vs bad guy and david vs goliath scenarios in the ring through the 90's step back, to the Attitude Era, The introduction of extreme wrestling, the monday night wars to the product it is today.

As a fan I try to enjoy multiple aspects of the product from the storylines, the match build ups, the executions of the moves, the interviews, the fan reactions, etc. And because of that I like a variety in my wrestling watching habits. So I do check out the independent scene as well as the mainstream products like Ring of Honor, Impact Wrestling and WWE.

My question to anyone else and where I would like to hear thoughts and opinions. Given the new direction the mainstream product has been going in the PG direction in WWE and TNA is obviously revamping as well over this last year.

What are your thoughs on the wrestling product vs the payable value in the current state and market that its in.

Do you feel that the quality of the product warrants the paying the cable and satellite providers the cost of the product that the big 2 promotions are charging for their pay per views? Or do you rather try to catch it on a stream site for free or pay a modest donation for a nice quality stream?

What about ticket prices, I have been considering attending several WWE events both Taping and house show along with TNA in my area later this year and was wondering how are ticket prices versus the delivered product. Would like to hear some thoughts and opinions on some current posters who have attended the events this year and their thoughts on whether or not we are "getting our money's worth.

Just a little bit of a different topic but figured I would try to generate a different stroke of discussion on TPWW for the next couple of days.

Loooking forward to your responses.

I don't spend a penny on wrestling, but then outside of the games and the occasional action figure when I was younger I never did.

Basically: Live show's are worth it, House shows are probably as good as a Raw/Smackdown taping in my opinion.

The PPV's....
I pay for The royal rumble and wrestlemania but that's spilt between a whole bunch of us, and we usually make a night of it. Otherwise it's probably not worth the money

I totally don't mind more child-appropriate wrestling. I don't miss blood and profanity like I thought I would, and good action and storytelling should trump shock anyway.

The problem is that there isn't good storytelling, and the action is questionable, so I find myself watching WWE less (and TNA not at all) because I just don't care. Even when I can get them for free online, it's not worth the general tedium.

I would pay for a good PG product, so it's not that. It's the boredom.

I used to buy a lot of PPVs, by comparison. I had a few WWE merch pieces (shirts, posters, etc), and I would go to live shows on occasion. It's not worth my money these days.

I don't think I will pay for the current product.

The last time I gave money to wrestling was the last Wrestlemania and I may avoid giving money until the next Wrestlemania, which I am working towards going to.

The company does not reflect me as a fan or support me as a fan. They trash and forget what I like or draws me in closer to the product. For that, I am paying them back by not being involved in the product. Suck it WWE.

I am looking forward to checking out NWA on Fire and also I wish to finally watch some current TNA. Wrestling for wrestling fans is what I want. I am less interested in a product for kids, I am looking at you George Devil Lucas and Vincent Dead Kennedy McKiddy.

I like Daniel Bryan, love my boy Kane (whom I have met), dislike the god status of John Cena, dislike the burying of great fresh talents like Del Rio.

I did watch the first segment in the anger management class, at the behest of FragilX (long live you sweet child), and really like that. I think that this segment indicates a potential future of wrestling. Meta Wrestling. Wrestling that is aware of itself, its history, its tropes, its smarks, its failure, its future.

Edit: I am perturbed that WWE thinks they can not script a product and keep it secret. Many film makers and story tellers have successfully done this, many times. Writing a script on the day of leads to a higher probability of a lesser product.

I know it is hard work but work hard and earn our money and your pay. Script year long story arcs and execute them, please for every talent.

With the rise of the internet, fewer people have been pulling that off.

Besides, WWE couldn't keep the lid on its shit back when AOL still distributed floppy disks. They are terrible at adapting to new media.
