According to Treyarch, prestige mode now includes guns gaining experience themselves but doesn't reset when someone wants to reset their stats with a prestige rank.

MP1st reports that Treyarch’s David Vonderhaar tweeted one of the site’s sources saying, “Did you know that you can Prestige any gun two times?” The source then followed up by asking, “If weapon XP converts to next prestige, will you have to prestige your weapon or will it go back down to 0 or stay at max?” ”Stays where it was. Weapon level and weapon prestige level totally independent of your level. Not reset by level prestige,” Vonderhaar replied.
