Yeah, the turf kills knees. All the years in Montreal are why Vlad Guerrero looked like a wounded gazelle when he was only 33 years old. Still one of the best hitters I've ever seen, but could have had multiple 40/40 seasons if he played on natural surfaces.

Did a little thinking about this trade last night, and it's got me wondering.

Does Bud Selig have the authority to replace an owner? I think Vito mentioned this earlier in the thread that what Jeff Loria is doing is nothing short of criminal to the fans of Miami. New stadium, a crop of stars, and he just blows it all up in nothing short of a year.

Remember when Jim Crane bought the Astros and the only way he'd get approval is if he agreed to move the team to the American League?

I'm thinking there's a good chance this trade doesn't happen.

There is nothing against the rules to rebuilding your team every few years.

You guys are making a big deal out of it. At least they grind up in cycles. The Pirates and Royals have just been SHIT for 20 years. Should Bud Selig come in and take those teams over?

They Traded away a bunch over aging, over paid players and are rebuilding. Nothing illegal or wrong with it.

It also doesn't help that the stadium is still empty regardless of who is on the field. Maybe if the fans looked inside themselves they would realize that they are not helping the team by not going to games.

well come on, many of their fans are Cuban defectors and other Latino persons, so when in th first week or so of the season, when their new manager professes an affinity to Castro, ...LOL. come on, they should have fired him right then.
Add to the fact they dismantle the team every so often. Do you remember how when they won th WS when Huzeinga (sp?) was the owner an they were having their celebration parade and the team was already being dismantled?? It's tough to invest into an organization as a fan that craps on you so much.
I really cant see an legit reason to blame the fan base. Which BTW, they did have 2.2 million fans attend. That put them middle of the pack.

The stadium was empty long before Ozzie was the manager. The stadium is only filled when they make the playoffs. Same goes for the Rays. People just don't go to baseball games in June in Florida.

Mets have been hyping a big R.A. Dickey celebration special tonight coinciding with the Cy Young Award announcement. Many of notable former Mets pitchers and Dickey himself will be interviewed.

Would there be anything more typically Mets-like than to do all of this only for Dickey to lose?

He's already warned Loria before about pocketing all the money he gets from revenue sharing while claiming to be "poor" or a small market but can't do anything more based on the current rules.

ESPN mentioned the only thing he could do is try to veto it but probably won't because in terms of money, the trade is basically even.

I dunno, Torii is still a dangerous hitter with protection this year, and at this point he is a RF, and a damn solid one. Put him in the two slot in front of Cabrera and Fielder and he is going to flourish.

2 years is a good deal for the Tigers, I saw reports he wanted a 3-4 year deal somewhere.

I really hope that Selig doesn't block the trade to Toronto. I haven't followed the Jays since the Roger Clemens era, and it would be really cool to have all this excitement generated from the trade announcement be for real.

There was a time when the Jays were the ultra-hot ticket in town. They set MLB attendance records, I still have World Series Championship merchandise from 20 years ago. It's been sad to see the SkyDome sitting so empty for the last 10 years. Success on the field will quickly load up the band wagon and bring fans back to the game of baseball.

I've only focused on hockey for the last 10 years, it would be nice to "boycott" the NHL for a short while and get back into baseball.

Red Sox rumored to be interested in signing Jason Bay.

Problem with that was Bay somewhat hated playing in Fenway because of the Green Monster. Didn't bother to learn how to play balls off the wall well and bolted the moment his deal at the time ended (1.5 seasons with the Sox).
