That's not quite what I'm talking about. I'm not saying that the draft is overvalued, rather that draft picks relative to using them in trades is, particularly after around the second or third round. Obviously the consistently good teams are developed in the draft, and I'm not downplaying that there is talent available in the later rounds, but it's about quality over quantity. A lot of these teams believe that if they stack up on picks they're more likely to hit it big in the draft, but it rarely seems to work out that way and they just wind up with more deadbeats. Beyond the top picks I don't know if there's that significant of a parallel between the overall quality of talent a team takes in the draft and how many picks they have or where in the round they draft. Maybe there's a website that has that sort of information.

I think if a big name player gets traded for a low pick a lot of the time it has something to do with that player's contract or he's a pain in the ass and they just want to get rid of him somehow. With regards to individual draft picks, however, the odds are more likely than not that the player will be out of the league in a couple of years, and the potential of drafting a Trent Cole or Leon Washington type of player in a later round is overstated.

I'm certainly not advocating teams like Dallas that give up all of their draft picks to get Roy Williams and Joey Galloway, but it seems like teams now are so afraid of making a 'Herschel Walker trade' that they've taken to the other end of that extreme.

The Patriots' specialty really is trading for troubled guys in exchange for mid-to-low round draft picks. At this point if a guy like that is on the market, I expect the Pats to get them. Moss, Ochocinco, and recently Aqib Talib. Rarely does there seem to be much of an issue, cause Belichick doesn't tolerate any of their bullshit. Moss eventually acted up, and so they traded him out of town after getting a few really good years out of him.

The Ochocinco experiment was a failure, but when the move happened I think everybody expected him to have a career rejuvenation simply because it was the Patriots.

The lockout hurt him the most considering he never had a real chance to learn and get used to the new system. Also didn't help he arrived right when BB started to redo the formation in a 2 TE set.

The bigger bust was Haynesworth considering he had the potential to really improve the pass rush core and instead barely bothered to do anything.

So in this post that you've quoted, I stated that I am not praising Tebow as much as I'm damning Peyton Manning. More specifically I'm damning the people who think that Manning is the best ever. The one game winning drive being the greatest comebacks in Playoff history is debatable as long as the Buffalo Bills and Frank Reich exist. My issue doesn't lie with him blowing out wild card teams...Peytong Manning is a front runner, he does well with that. But do you deny the fact that he has a losing record in the playoffs as a whole? I'm sure if you asked every player in the NFL if you were in the AFC/NFC Championship or the Superbowl, and you needed your quarterback to lead a game winning drive would you choose Peyton manning to do it; You would be shocked to learn that he'd get a resounding 'hell the fuck no'.


I don't deny that Peyton Manning has amazing stats. I just subscribe to the notion that stats don't mean jack shit when you don't have titles to justify that. He has one, and he literally threw another one away. It can be argued that Eli Manning has built a stronger Hall of Fame case quicker than Peyton.

FU fgt, been posting almost exculsively on TPWW in the NFL thread as a Denver fan for almost 9 years.

Pretty sure Naitch, Dave and ClockShot were on board before TEBOW TIME 2011, as was CNM before he disappeared. Not sure if I'm missing anyone else

Who's the other option here? Tebow? (I know you said you aren't "praising" Tebow but this did all start with you trying to say that Tebow was the better option and defending that with last season) I'd say hell the fuck yes... lol, you like harping on that INT. He didn't "literally throw another one away". He threw a pick six in a game where he was already behind and trying to lead a game winning drive. If the drive doesn't end in a TD, it's the same result. He threw a pick. Alright. Let's just discount everything because of that one pick. Fact of the matter is, he's got a WINNING RECORD in championship games and you're making it a point to say that you should be terrified to have him leading your team into a championship game. That alone is ridiculous.

Really not looking forward to Martin breaking tackles all day. I hope Atlanta can find a way to stop him, but considering backs have had a field day against Atlanta this year I'm not as optimistic.

The rush wasn't coming though. He had time. Someone could have gotten off their block and caught a pass. I've never seen a QB just take the snap, look at one guy and then throw the ball down without being hurried.
