I didn't know Sting wasn't in shape during that match. That is a new one to me. The only complaint I've heard about that match is the not-so-slow slow count and the Bret Hart finish.

In late spring 1997, Rena Mero gets injured instead of Marc, thereby preventing his over-the-top heel turn as an insecure boxer who continued to take his wife with him during the walk to the ring. Kayfabe-wise, I guess Marc Mero was supposed to act as if the next city would somehow cheer him more than Sable. The only way to do that would be to lock Sable in the locker room or something! ...But the fans would still chant for her.
