Punk didn't have half the crowd booing him when he was the face-WWE Champion. Everybody was cheering and chanting CM Punk. That's probably why they turned him heel because he was out popping (and out selling in shirts) the chosen one at every show.
And drawing the lowest ratings in over a decade. Can't be that over. In any other era Punk is nothing more than an IC champ.
