4. If I recall correctly, this was actually one of the more ridiculous kayfabe reasons for turning heel. Triple H drugged and married Stephanie, putting him at odds against Vince McMahon. Then they swerved him and it was Stephanie and Triple H against Vince McMahon. Then they swerved everyone and revealed that it was all a part of a plan to establish Triple H as the future of the WWF and that both Vince and Shane supported the alliance between Triple H and Stephanie. Basically the idea was that the "corrupt" members of the McMahon family were always in cahoots with Triple H. I think this was just a big set-up for Stone Cold to return at Backlash and help Rock pick up the WWF Championship.
