Saw this movie yesterday. I enjoyed it.
Like most here, I thought I was going to be disappointed by the "twist" with The Mandarin, but it was just so amusing. I wonder, though, why they were still calling him "The Master" when no one was around. Unless only Killian knew the truth, but it did not seem that well guarded. I wonder if Killian was behind the "League of the Ten Rings" thing from the first movie, or if maybe he just took inspiration from a real terrorist organization. In which case, a Mandarin-like threat could still be out there. Or someone is "inspired" by the fake Mandarin broadcasts and becomes a real one. |

I imagine Killian started the Ten Rings long ago and was behind just about everything wrong in Tony's life. Probably should have been more forthcoming with Shane, though maybe Extremis wasn't up and running yet.

There isn't an Iron Man 4 on the cards, is there? If not, this is it as far as any more Mandarin goes.

IM4 is a slim shot, and they're setting up Phase 3 right now with no talk of an Iron Man movie in sight.
War Machine/Iron Patriot and Rescue? Who knows. People are still interested in that corner of the MCU, we love the power suits. An Iron Man movie without the Iron Man would be a hard sell, though. Robert's the star of the MCU as much as Hugh's the star of the X-Men movie-verse. Both paid their dues, though, and they're not getting any younger. |

I have a hard time seeing the franchise going forward without RDJ. Also, there a reason John Faverau didn't direct this one?

One thing that bothered me about the post-credits scene. Why does the doctor have salt and pepper hair? Isn't he supposed to be younger?

Seen a few people - including 'whereman in his blog - question why Tony didn't use the "Army of Suits" during the attack on his home.
My take on it was that the only suit that was remote controlled at the time of the attack was the Mark 42 prototype. After his time in the wilderness Tony sets Jarvis to task on upgrading the remaining suits to all be remote controlled. Pretty sure they allude to this in the conversations between Tony and Jarvis during the big action sequence leading to the final battle. Of course, I could be wrong. |

I think you are right too, I was not sure of this and thought maybe I had just imagined the whole part where Jarvis was upgrading the other suits.

Also, I forgot to say, the 3D in this was pretty lacklustre. Didn't add anything to the film and they seemed to do so little to utilise the technology.

Sorry if this was said already, but I thought that the War Machine suit was going to come flying in with the others towards the end. Seems like they were saving something for the Iron Patriot suit to make it's way back into the battle.

I know, I just thought they would have Tony fart around and want to get his friend back into a similar suit with the War Machine paint job.

I like how Tony is all like "Sorry Rhodey, no armor for you, they are DNA locked to me", but then Pepper uses it just fine earlier in the movie, and then uses pieces of it just fine in the final battle.

Really enjoyed the movie. Better than what I was expecting. Not as good at 1, but better than 2.
Couple thoughts Ben Kingsley was amazing. I liked Terrence Howard as Rhodes better after seeing the second one, but Don Cheadle won me over. The scene after the credits was entertaining, but not what I was expecting. Kinda hoped for a Thanos appearance at the end. Still can't stand Gwyneth Paltrow |

I suppose. Some seem to use it better though. Dredd had some pretty good set pieces designed expressly to show off the 3D, others get a great "depth of field" out of it. This didn't seem to do either.

Does a film set at Xmas qualify it as a Christmas Movie? Suppose it does for Home Alone.

Shane Black movies tend to be set during Xmas, but I don't think it makes them Xmas movies in the sense of Christmas Story - he probably just likes the setting.

Finally saw this yesterday.
Absolutely well done. Much better, much more memorable than the second installment. Loved the entire story. First and foremost, loved how the story really exploited Tony Stark, the man. I was thinking, with all the trailers showing the abundance of suits, that it was going to be a giant clusterfuck of action in all sorts of armors. Instead, Tony is defeated rather easily the first go, and we get to see his human will and cunning, and, along with the character, see just what Tony is made of when he literally has nothing but his body and mind to rely on. Excellently done. Killian was great. Didn't get too much screen time, but more than enough to really be, imo, the best villian of the series. Kingsley was excellent. Absolutely excellent, and it was a nice twist to focus all the heat on Killian. The idea that someone would create an image to take all the heat and be a symbol of war and terrorism against America is fucking brilliant, imo. Loved the way they went about that. Always thought Cheadle was the superior choice to Terrence Howard in the acting department, and he was very good with what he was given here. Finallly got to see soldier Rhodes get his hands dirty. I was not, in any way, shape or form, looking forward to seeing Pepper in the armor for the sheer reason that I was tired of seeing everyone and their mother get an armor suit from the previous two films. I was pleasantly suprised to see that it wasn't really "Rescue", but just Tony being protective of her. Well done. Also like how they nipped the Extremis gene in the bud with the closing narration. No need to have that lingering. It just doesn't fit, imo, with the way Pepper has been written in this franchise. I am a bit dumbfounded how, after Tony blew up Killian in his suit, Pepper is able to blow him up with a missile from one of the suits and defeat him. The girlfriend and I were scratching our heads a bit. All in all, this was an awesome film. Really enjoyed myself. Glad they didn't go all super serious with it and kept quite a bit of the humor in it, because that's what made the series really enjoyable from a character standpoint, and it's good they kept that in there. Also, with how the ending shaped up, I have a really hard time seeing how they go about making another film. I mean, I'd be all for it if the story was well done and it was presented in a way that is complementary to the previous 3 films and further develops the character rather than for the sole purpose of cashing in for the sake of it. Tony got his closure, found out what he was made of, and had the shrapnel removed from his chest, meaning no need for the chest piece. Sure he could don the armor if need be, but I just don't see how they could do it while still remaining fresh and original after three pretty good films and a very good final act. We shall see I guess, but I am happy to see Tony Stark call it a day after this one and just appear sparingly from here on out. |

I very much enjoyed it, definitely more than 2 and maybe more than the first, but I'm not sure. There were some pretty insane tonal shifts.
Guy Pearce is my favorite and Ben Kingsley was terrific as he always is. |

To be fair...it's not like he can't create a suit on the fly. This was a clean slate. So we'll have a new Mark 1 in the Avengers 2.
Maybe. |
