the problem is, WWE hires female models (for the most part) and tries to train them to be wrestlers.

Where as the men (for the most part) are wrestlers/pro athletes, who they then try to convert to entertain over pure rasslin

Pretty much this. Watch some AJW from back in the day. Not awkward at all, and in fact boasts some of the best wrestling matches ever, male or female.
