What, wasn't a big deal made about who was going to fight for Tyrion? Who cares if it's some guy introduced like 3 episodes ago?

He was introduced at the beginning of the season. But yeah, someone mentioned something about the "twist" of who was going to fight for Tyrion.

Not such a huge twist that the guy who wants to kill The Mountain will go ahead and fight him.

Though I guess in the show it is more of a "twist" because Bronn was still around. In the books he was already off married.

It's a "twist" in the sense that Oberyn Martell hates and wants to kill all Lannisters, so the idea of him defending a Lannister in any sense is "unexpected."
