I was originally going to ask what titles unified to make the IC title, but apparently the story I've heard is at least in part a lie.
I always thought Patterson unified the WWF North American and South American Heavyweight titles, but it appears there never was a WWF South American Heavyweight Championship, instead the Intercontinental Championship originally only represented the continents of North and South America, which may or may not explain how the European Championship came into being. |
