This thread is largely full of obsessive, overly-self-important armchair critics who couldn't put together something better, myself included.

It was what it was, which was entertaining. Comparing any written media to the movie counterpart is dumb because you cannot possibly cram all the cool shit that makes the "book vs movie" argument in the book favor.
