Roman squashing Goldberg in 5 minutes is how I would book that match as well. Gives Goldberg time to hit his signature moves, maybe they briefly brawl outside the ring, spot involving the barrier or table or something of the sort, Roman eventually gets the upper hand and BOOM match over. Vince finally accomplishes his dream of making Roman look strong since they've built up that Goldberg destroyed Lesnar with ease in short time. Also better for the fans because we aren't stuck with a 20 minute clunker. Each gets a big entrance, match is about 5 minutes, wham bam thank you mam' done.

Goldberg is popular enough that people will care that he loses. I think you can wring way more out of him, but there's "redemption" there for him. That's never been a particularly appealing part of the Goldberg persona (him being a sure thing was always his attraction), but this is 2017 and you've only got a handful of guys with that star potential. You can have Goldberg pin Sheamus or something at another PPV to get some energy back. Another way to go about it is to have The Usos get involved by attacking Goldberg during the course of the match, they get the Goldberg specials to pop the crowd, but Goldie turns into a Spear from Reigns and gets pinned. It's a bit bullshitty, but if you want to go with Reigns as a heel and protect Goldberg, there are ways to do it. I can also see Reigns with a plate in his vest, so Goldberg knocks himself out on his own Spear. But it might just be better to have Reigns just kick Goldberg's ass. |
