On Wrestling Observer Radio Dave Meltzer said the reason for the Daniel Cormier tryout on commentary (when it happens) is because FOX has asked for him to do play-by-play for SmackDown when it moves, as they really like him doing play-by-play for UFC.

Dave said FOX thinks Cormier will help give the product a more 'sports feel' and re-iterated that a 'sports-feel' is what FOX is indicating they want for Smackdown (translation : no more New Day/R-Truth segments)
