AEW got a no rights paid deal on a cable channel. WWE got a $1 billion paid rights deal on a network. This is not trying to bash AEW whatsoever, but WWE doesn't just go away because another wrestling company has a great show. The whole narrative is foolish. WWE attendance was down by like $4 million the 1st quarter compared to the first quarter in 2018. They also ran 9 less shows, and has zero international shows in the first quarter of 2019. For perspective, their new tv deal will add an additional $75 million to their quarterly income. Even if WWE attendance went down an additional 75%, from $26 million to $6.5 million, they STILL will make $55.5 million more per quarter once the new TV contracts kick in. Point is they are going to be making so much money that AEW having good shows every few months is almost inconsequential to WWE. It is great for AEW and us wrestling fans, but that is not the debate point. |
