And, speaking of context, similar to OZ with HBO, it was one of the first "exclusive" shows under the Netflix produciton banner for "original series" selections instead of just swiping premade collections that may or may not be currently running on other networks. With Carnival Row the issue is they dont give you back story until ep 3 so you have no characters you have any reason to root for. Once they establish the stakes its honestly really good.
