I don't know if there was ever a start to finish great Nitro, but going off Goldberg, the match he had with Raven to win the U.S. Title has that same incredible energy from the crowd.

I say that because not everything tied together. Yes the variety approach works, but it does lead to down segments that don't build the show from start to finish.

It is the same gripe I have with NXT since it went live. Randomly showcasing a 205 live or UK segment just because doesn't mean it flows with the show.

That is one of main praises AEW consistently gets, that the 2 hour shows seem to fly by. That is because they generally have the entire show flows together without out of place things just shoved in.

There are many great segments from WCW, but if the entire concept of the nWo angle was legit, then it made no sense to have random WCW vs WCW matches. Even the above mentioned episode where Goldberg won the title from Hogan, other matches on that card included:

Kanyon vs Raven
Scott Putski vs Riggs
Chavo Guerrero Jr vs Johnny Swinger
The Public Enemy vs Alex Wright & Disco Inferno
The Giant vs Jim Duggan
DDP vs Jim Neidhart
Lex Luger & Sting vs Kidman & Sick Boy

On the night Hogan and the nWo finally got dealt a decisive defeat at the hands of WCW's top guy, they had 7 completely random matches not including title matches or the cruiserweight match of Juventud Guerrera vs Psychosis.

The majority of that episode was completely irrelevant. None of those matches were really building towards anything. None were technical masterpieces. Hell, the longest match of all of them was 5 minutes and 1 seconds long. They were all just filler, and not even good filler.

Hence, not a great episode of Nitro. Off the charts highpoint, but not worth watching all that filler just to get to the highpoints. Just stream the great stuff.
