Maybe it is this too? His in-ring work was great, no question.... just meh. Hard to really put a logical reason as to why, nothing he did ever made me "care".

He had the same problem as Sheamus in regards to WWE pushed both way too fast and raked up the big accolades way too early before both felt ready as big stars. That led to them feeling like very forced hand-picked stars and crowds not being invested as a result.

A similar thing happened with Lesnar during his intital WWE run but the difference was Lesnar had that big star aura right from the start so it felt way less forced. Plus him being the rare beast type guy that Vince loves that actually has great ring skills.
