Discuss the Career #2: D-Lo Brown

To continue with this, I selected D-Lo Brown for week #2. Sorry about the delay, some things were going on in real life that needed attention. Anyways to get to it.

To me D-Lo was destined to be a midcarder. I have been watching a lot of Attitude Era type shows lately. From his introduction into the WWF universe as a heel in the Nation of Domination, D-Lo was pretty good in that stable. In the summer of 1998, he was using a chest protector in his matches, which led to an interesting storyline. When he left the nation, he aligned with Mark Henry to form a successful team.

While never going to achieve Main event status, I always valued what D-Lo did in the ring as a competitor. I had always hoped that he would come back to the WWE, similarly to what Carlito did.

D’Lo was one of my favorite midcarders of the Attitude Era. I’d say his run from 97 up to the Droz accident in 99 was very good. Loved the chest protector gimmick, loved his European championship run, loved his entrance theme. I don’t think he ever would’ve made it past that peak even if the Droz accident hadn’t happened. I didn’t watch his TNA stuff and I’m deliberately ignoring the Lo Down era so I’d say his career was right about what it should be.

Also seems like a really solid dude in real life.

You always "what could've been" if the Droz injury didn't happen. I also think he was a "Russo guy" so when he left, it was curtains for his run.

Very skilled, very entertaining, but was left untapped. Not like I could see him kick it up a notch to a main event draw or anything. But he could've been an enduring, formidable mid carder that the fans loved instead of a guy that just fizzled.

Whether you take into account his time in Smokey Mountain Wrestling or the early days of the Nation in WWE, it's actually an achievement for him that he was able to break free from the flunky role and come into his own. He always seemed to give it his all no matter the circumstances. Better booking could've extended his career in the mid-card instead of just leaving him to rot in purgatory. Overall, he filled an important role on the show, keeping the crowd warm for the bigger stage. I don't think I was ever bored with anything he did.

The "Droz incident" didnt seem to hurt his standing in the wrestling business. If the injury happened in this day and age, it would have been interesting to see how the company would have handled it.

D-Lo was very underrated to the Attitude Era.

He had a role that he played very well. He was the guy in the Gangstas that got beat up, to protect New Jack and Mustafa Saed. He was the guy Ahmed got a hold of, to protect Farooq.

Also, huge ups to him for the segment when Farooq fired the old Nation, he sold thinking he was gonna get fired incredibly.

Loved the entrance theme and head wobble. The whole chest protector gimmick was mint. Feel like he could have been more than what he was...

The Droz incident seemed to completely shake his confidence. Then he got caught busted trying to go to WCW, I think. That was it. It’d be interesting to see parallel universe D’Lo in 2001 WWF and beyond.

Random memory: D’Lo Brown vs. Triple H from a random episode of Raw during the dark days of *that* run. I think it was probably Raw Roulette, since they were wearing blindfolds. I remember D’Lo stumbling around and hitting a Sky High on Triple H. Reminiscent of Triple H showing ass against Taka Michinoku in 2000.
