Break Through Stars
Looking back to 1996 when we saw The Rock, Steve Austin, Triple H, Mankind, all making the push through the ranks in WWF, there were a lot of other 'could have beens' (maybe) on the WWF scene too. Who do you remember, and was there anyone you felt could have made that leap to be one of the major players now years later?
I kind of felt that Aldo Montoya, and Duke Droese were never as bad as they were made to appear on Television. Flash Funk (Scorpio) was really hyped, but all too quickly faded, and Marc Mero had a hot feud with HHH that should have gotten him far more over than it did.

I thought Marc Mero, Farooq and particularly Scorpio (especially with Terry Funk in his corner) had main event potential. Mero is a bit small, but the other guys had the size and ability.

Ken Shamrock, Val Venis (almost got there too, remember that really short feud he had with Austin?), Scorpio, Double J, and Mero

Shamrock would have been a WWE champ if he hadn't left the company

I always wanted to see Curt Hennig as a main eventer cause he had so much latent potential, but now we'll never get to see it.
![]() Other guys I thought as main event potential were Shamrock, Davey Boy Smith, "Mr. Ass" Billy Gunn, and Val Venis. |

I was a big D'Lo fan, he had serious potential before the Droz incident.
Shamrock was the goods too. |

Best thing I remember about Shamrock was during the Rock/Shamrock feud, Rock was in the ring with a chair confronting Kenny. Shamrock was on his knees yelling, "HIT ME HIT ME". Rock proceeds to lay a stiffass chair shot on him.
Dammit, I miss Shamrock now |

I loved Shamrock in the WWE... he was always "snapping" and "bleeding internally".
I swear. Every match he was in you'd hear JR say: "He's bleeding internally......." I don't think Venis could have gotten to the main events. Not with that gimmick at least. |

I'll probably get some heat for this, but Test had alot of potential. It's a shame the rug was pulled from under him like it was, when he was on the cusp of superstardom.

I think the biggest missed boat would have to be British Bulldog right after Unforgiven '99 (and actually about half a dozen other times)...He had the heat, so what did they do? Stuck him with the Mean Street Posse and the Euro Title...damn
