yeah, why not. Lots of times guys have helped out stables, but haven't joined. One that comes to mind right now is Jericho with The Anti-Americans a few years back.

He could of been helping them out, but not hanging around with them

That angle was just used to tease a Maven turn to gauge the crowd's reaction, and since he got heat that night they used another angle to turn him last week on RAW.

They did the same thing with Batista a week later, and now it looks like he's gonna turn face anytime now.
