My soundcard isn't working

Actually I found out what's causing it just.
There's something running in my tasks list that's called "System"

Now this wasn't there before last night, and I tried to close it then with no success.
Booted up the PC (again) just and tried to close it, no more sound.

Not sure how to get rid of this because according to a search I did it's a spyware program thing.
