How can I get rid of these fuckers?
I'm sure you've had these in that past, I've had them a couple of times before, but this time it's different. For some reason, I cant right click or drag them out of their place, thus, not being able to delete them. I've to the adware/spyware scan and deleted a whole bunch of stuff but they still wont delete.
Any ideas? ![]() |

Try starting up your computer in sade mode and delete the icons. Check in the task manager to see if there are any programs that i running that could be related to any of those icons. Disable them( if any) and then try to delete the icons. My best bet is to go into safe mode and delete them icons.

sounds like they run as service which is not started under safe mode. Try spybot search and destroy, or go to add/remove programs and look for things that you know you didnt install, but be careful as to research on google whatever you decide to remive so you dont remove an important program.

Delete the files via ms dos. Or find out where the icons are located. Check the properties of the icons and see if they are located in any folder or something like that.

I've found a folder called Messenger Plus! 3.
When I try to delete it I get this message... Cannot delete MsgPlus.exe: Access is denied. |

hhhmm check out what startsup when your computer is running. I reckon you can not delete MsgPlus.exe because its currently being in use. So try to disable it first via task manager then delete it. I have msn plus as well but i never got any of these icons on my computer ( assuming msn plus is a cause of all these icons).

hmm , sounds to me like an active desktop trick.
Try this. Got to start, Settings > Control Panel Then go to your Display settings. Under the Web tab, there will be a check box Show Web Content on Active Desktop and another for My current homepage. Try unchecking both, then apply. I'm thinking this will either fix it or end in an error that will be more helpful in finding what it is you have. |

might also want to go to Internet options while you are there and check your homepage settings. If it looks normal, run Adaware or spybot. Since you've ended the active desktop, it should show you some registry keys that may be trying to redirect your homepage to that thing with the card games.

I managed to delete Messenger Plus, but that hasn't helped.
Can't find anything about an active desktop... Oh and by the way, the names of the annoying icons also appear on my favourites list, and can't be moved or deleted. |

its either a programs installed, and like its been suggested here, remove it from the add remove programs in the control panel.
the fact that you cant move the icons is really strange though, its almost as if that stuff is a program thats loading up...trying clicking on start, then click run, and typie msconfig. Click the startup tab...take a look in there for anything that looks strange, like garbled letter "eytui.exe" for example, or stuff that looks pretty obvious. |

I went to the start-up tab and turned off pretty much everything.
That did the trick. ![]() (EDIT: Hmm... It worked for a while, but I've been on the computer for a while and now the icons have all come back.) Last edited by NoJabbaNoBogRoll; 01-01-2005 at 05:04 PM. |
