Were you watching the WWF in the 1980's?

If you were, like I was, don't you feel kind of sorry for some of the guys inducted in the Hall of Fame this year? I mean, it was all about Hogan, and while he certainly should be acknowledged I felt kind of bad for everyone else. It's like they never really mattered. And does anyone know if the Induction ceremony will be sold on DVD like it was last year? I wonder when we can buy it.

Also, if you were watching the World Wrestling Federation in the 1980's, what are some of your favorite memories from that era? Off the top of my head, I absolutely LOVED waking up on Saturday mornings to watch "The Rock 'n' Wrestling Cartoon," and I also very much liked The War To Settle The Score. (I still have the latter on tape, but the quality has started to de-teriorate, of course.) What else was good back then?

Well, the 80s kind of were about Hogan.

He was the top face, definitely, and he did a hell of a lot to help build the company. I'm not denying any of that, or saying he shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame (because I think it's long over-due). But think about it, it takes at least TWO wrestlers to have a match. Could there have been a Hulk Hogan if it weren't for his opponents?

See that's my point. And I just felt bad for the guys inducted with him, because it's almost like they weren't important. Just wondering if anyone else feels the same way.

I do know what you mean by that because I do feel the same way. Hogan was huge in the 80's so he did need to go into the Hall Of Fame at some point, but his achievements in the business eclipses everyone else's by far and so it did make the other inductees look bad (Piper excluded).

I was too young in the 80's, but I remember watching when I was about 5 in 92-93.

Hell yeah, Saturday Nights Main Event boyyyyeeeeeee. And yes you are right. Although Hogan is the biggest star from that era, and you knew him going into the hall of fame was going to totally outshine whoever else happened to be in that class, I'm very surprised that given the rest of the people inducted, Hogan still completely stole the show. The Iron Sheik and Orndorf mostly, are the ones I felt bad for. Sheik is the one that made Hogan a household name, and his feud with Orndorf is legendary.

I watched in the 80's.

My favorite moments were:

--Staying up late and sneaking into the living room to watch Saturday Night's Main Event.

--The Million Doller Man segments

--Watching the first Survivor Series: just an incredible PPVand I marked out for Savage, The Snake , and Steamboat when they killed HTM's team, I marked out for the Killer B's pinning the Hart's with that mask/switch thing, and then cheering like nuts when Bam Bam Bigelow pinned King Kong Bundy, then One Man Gang, before finally losing to Andre the Giant. Good stuff, there.

--The SNME when Macho Man turned on Hogan. Awesome.

--I remember my whole perspective on matches changing after I watched the first Clash of the Champions. From then on, whenever i wrestled in my bckyard, I was either Flair or Sting.

Lots of things, actually. But to this topic, I don't feel bad for anyone who caught wrestling recently. Lookng back on it, if you wanted to see big name go against big name you had to go to a live event or pay one of the few PPV's available during the year. So even though you missed seeing some amazing talent, if you've started being a wrestling fan anytime since after Nitro debuted, you're actually pretty fortunate in many ways.
