Mark Hamil's rendition of Joker's voice is excellent.... don'tknow how HE would actually be.

Yeah it'd be better if they got someone like ionno, Crispin Glover (not a recommendation, just a name that's been floated before) who has the right sort of build and look, and then dubbed him with Hamill's voice.

simple: it's based on the comics, not on the other movies.

note that the Batman movies in the late 80s and early 90s weren't the first Batman movies either.

regarding it failing at the box office:

1) it was brilliant
2) the theater was FULL last night.

Scot you have to pretend the other Batman movies don't exist - if anyone starts talking about them you just stick your fingers in your ears and go NA NA NA NA NOT LISTENING NA NA NA NA.

And now you can say HOLY SHIT THEY'VE FINALLY MADE A BATMAN MOVIE!!!!

I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT!!!!!!!!!!

When you block things out life is all roses again.

I can't wait for someone to make The Phantom movie HOW FUCKING COOL WOULD THAT BE?!!!!

Yeah, I knew it would be the Joker, which I both support and am kinda iffy about. I know it's a brand new franchise and all, and the Joker has to be in the series somewhere, but having him second may confuse a lot of people into thinking they are trying to remake Burton's original Batman

That said, I don't envy Mark Hamill, or anyone else who has to try and follow Jack Nicholson as the Joker.

Frankly though, if they ever bring back Mr. Freeze, anyone who plays him should have a pretty easy time besting their predecessor.

I am still in awe over this movie, even the morning after. Wow. That's a multiple-viewer for sure. I have to say, there were moments when Bale was so deep into Batman (Not really a spoiler but don't really want to ruin anything: such as when he was dangling the fat cop upside down and playing bungee with his body, all the while menacingly interrogating/borderline torturing him) that I was thinking, "God, he is absolutely terrifying. Holy shit." It was fantastic.

Cast your doubts aside, Scot, you won't regret it.

I hear the movie tries too hard to be sardonic. That the movie has a lot of 'homeland security' feel to it.

This is a great film. It is easily the best cast superhero movie ever. Forget about Bale (who seems like he was born to play this role) for a second. Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, and Liam Neeson (who I'd like to say more about but can't without spoiling the movie) all deserve to be remembered when the oscars role around, but the real prize is Cillian Murphy, who is extraordinarily creepy even without a his scarecrow mask. Please, please, PLEASE bring Scarecrow back for another movie.

Anyway, definitely see this movie, even if you aren't a comic fan. Can't wait for the sequel.

ssss Cillian Murphy was sensationally creepy. He was really, really good. Morgan Freeman rocked my socks off as always too. As I said about Caine, he did well, and I really liked him as Alfred, but he slipped back into his Cockney accent like once or twice which sorta threw me very very slightly. But you are right, amazingly cast superhero film.

I took my oldest daughter to see it. It was ok, much better than all the others minus perhaps the first 'Tim Burton' Batman. I still think they need to spend more time explaining (or distancing) that this is a different Batman and not a prequel. The ending, with Gordon showing the Joker card, had the people around me saying things like; "ah, so that's where the first Batman movie they made starts"... Nevermind that with a little thinking you'd see that isn't the case, but people don't care to comprehend.

I thought it was a great movie. However, the first 30-40 minutes of the movie are hella slow, and I pondered dozing off for a few. Once Bruce Wayne starts doing his Batman shit, the movie begins to kick some serious ass.

Just got back from seeing the movie.

Soo... when the Batmobile goes off-road and heads for the waterfall entrace of the Batcave, did anyone else think, "Jesus, if the police were so willing to catch this guy, can't they just follow the giant tire treads and the path of destruction?"

Anyway, pretty good movie, though I thought Bale's Batman voice was cheesy at times. Hats off to all the cast. I sorta like that this Batman is not so much a gloomy loner as the previous incarnations. The guy is surrounded by people who appreciate and help him, and he himself knows when to draw the line between vengeance and heroism.

If Joker's in the next movie, by the way, he'd better show up as Jack Napier first. How can you have a Joker movie without the famous swan dive into the vat of acid?

I saw this movie today. Fantastic. That's all I can say.

The start of this movie may discourage non-Batman fans in enjoying the film, but everything is all really good by the end.

I may be alone in this, but I think they should NOT have The Joker as the villain in the second movie. He's the biggest villain of them all, and I can easily see him either restarting this franchise after the second or third movie. It just seems like blowing your load holding him off for the first film, then having him in the second film.

I admit, I don't know the story and origins of all the characters in the Batman universe, but I think Harvey Dent should be introduced as a character (Two-Face as a villain would be particularly interesting in this movie-arc, since Batman is all about justice and Two-Face is more about chance). Maybe have The Penguin as a seperate villain?

It might be a more powerful way to introduce Joker if they have Batman go to visit Lucius Fox, or someone, to find their home/office has been completely turned upside down, with the person Bruce is there to see being lft in a bloody heap on the floor, with Batman's only clue being a Joker Card being left at the scene.

The following movie would then be about The Joker. I would also love to see The Scarecrow use Bane to terrorise Batman. Have Bane cripple Batman as well, with Scarecrow hamping it up, constantly remidning him that criminal activity has regained itself since Scarecrow arranged for Batman to be on the sidelines for a while.

This wouldn't follow the comics 100% accurately, but I think it could be pulled off without being offensive.

Jack Napier was a name they made up on the first film in semi-tribute to one of the actors on the TV series who had recently died (as far as I understand it anyway)

Anyhoo, far as I know the plan at the moment is Joker for #2, and then Two-Face for #3. Those two are big enough on their own to not warrant any secondary villains.

Here is something I would like to see. Not always a new villian. I really for example like the direction XMen has taken with having very many of the same core villians. If there's a way to have (for example) The Joker be a recurring villian, then I think that's a direction I would like to see this series taker.

That's sort of what I wouldn't mind seeing, but it would get hard to keep a villain in there, unless they played "coach" to another villain.

I can easily see villains being introduced one or two movies ahead. Maybe have menion of "The Penguin" in the second film (I'm not particularly fond of the character, but he's one a lot of people know well) and the introduction of Harvey Dent as a character, most likely replaced Rachel Dawes' boss in the second film. Have him play the biggest role possible in the second film, so when he becomes "Two-Face" he can really be an impactful villain on Batman's life.

Nolan said that he felt killing off the villains in the previous movies was a big mistake and he doesn't plan on killing off many.

Last rumour I read (and I stress these are only rumours..hell we don't even know if they'll make any more) was that Dent does indeed show up in the 2nd one, ends up prosecuting the Joker and during the trial...well, you know

Which then leads to the 3rd

K I dunno. Went into it expecting way too much, I think.

Stupid fat Roger Ebert gave it 4 stars and called it a "character study" so I was like holy shit, nice. So I went into it expecting a 4 star character study movie, which it wasn't, AT ALL. That shit was so sloppy and rushed. It felt like a five hour movie compressed to two hours. There was so much shit that just happened out of nowhere and like you have no idea wtf is happening. The movie just sorta happened, and something felt not right. Like it didn't feel like it was developed enough yet, and then it just ended.

It was great but I do agree that it was too short.

You have to remember AAA, a character study of a comic book, really isn't the same thing. These types of movies always assume you know a lot coming in.

Wow, what a fucking movie. Easily beats all those other Batmans. Scarecrow was the fucking man. He was my fav in the animated series. Kind of didn't like how he got zapped by Rachel and then he was done. I like how they introduced the Joker at the end.

I liked the look of Gotham in Tim Burton's rendition. This new one looked too much like Chicago or something.

I like the new Gotham look. The old look was good for its time, but whenever I watch the 1990 Batman again, everything looks sorta fakey.

Yeah I'll agree with you there, that's my second and last true complaint about the movie, Gotham doesn't look disinct.

The Joker was Batman's very first villain, appearing in Batman #1 way, way back in 1940, but Scarecrow first appeared in 1941, so yes, Scarecrow was one of the very first (and coolest) Bat-villains.

This movie put EVERY other Batman movie to shame. Even the Tim Burton ones, and I was a huge fan of those. It just really brought out the "badass" Batman that fans of the franchise have been waiting for.
