Well, Francona in the pre-game hung manny out, said he went to Manny and Manny said he still needed the day off. Also, Rumor is Kevin Millar asked for be delt a few weeks ago (ok, the word is his agent called and asked, that way Millar could go around and say "I never asked to be delt"). Now, in the past when Manny really gets out of wack, Millar has been the guy who pulls him aside and says "Hey, stop acting like a jackass" and Manny listens to him and responds. So, it's interesting if that happens this time, or possible Schilling says something stupid to the press which will probably piss Manny off. That all being said, the Sox have pitching problems, no closer, 1 setup guy, no long relief, questionable SP, injuries, players in slump, bad fielding and a 3B coach who needs his arms nailed to his sides. But, they're still in 1st place, and I think around the same record as last season. I doubt you'll see the Sox and Yanks in the playoffs, I just think the AL East is going to beat itself up so much that the Div winner goes and the other doesn't get a Wild Card. |

Yeah because A-Rod was going to make less money or something. I am glad it got shut down though. Seeing how Manny was busy winning a World Series MVP award while A-Rod was being a little bitch smacking the ball out of Arroyo's glove.
I really don't think Manny wants to be traded, he probably just got pissed about the media and said it. I really don't think he wants to go, his best friend in the majors is on the team. He looks like he is having a great time. I would have agreed 2 seasons ago, but not anymore. |

Does he want to be delt, sure.
To a place like KC or Tampa where he thinks he can walk down the street and no one will know him. 20-25mil a year, ain't gonna happen. This happens every few months. He makes a bunch of stupid moves (going into the monster during an inning, not running out hits, fielding errors) and the media gets on him and he gets all defensive. Combine this with Millar not being happy and the media asking about his wife being pregnant. He'll hit a few non-clutch home runs in the next week or two and all will be foregotten. |

Everybody hates on him because he does dumb things, so what? He's fucking nasty. He was the World Series MVP. When he does fuck up, its hilarious anyways. Cutting off Johnny Damons throw is probably one of the funniest things i've ever seen in a baseball game. |

Bellhorn - 3/10, 1HR, 4RBI, 2SO Nixon - 5/14, 0HR, 3RBI, 1SO You act like Manny carried the team and won them the WS, which wasn't the case. Again, he's a great hitter, but that's where it ends. He's a selfish non-team player, that costs his teams wins in the field and on the basepath. Would I trade him? Doubt it, would have to be a great deal, or a deal that free's a lot of money and there's someone out there (or two players) I'd spend the money on. |

I thought he was leading the majors with 2 out RBIs? Plus he has a high batting average with runners in scoring position this year. Also if he can't produce with runners in scoring position why is he tops in the league with RBIs?
Manny isn't a great outfielder, but I have yet to see a game this year where he cost the team a game. Take his bat out of the lineup and the Red Sox have a lot less wins. He isn't a media favorite obviously, so if he says something like that after a game they are going to jump all over it. While Millar uses a scumbag way of asking for a trade and people are fine with it becuase Millar is a media favorite. So he doesn't get as much bad press. |

BOSTON (AP) - Manny Ramirez's trade request will be difficult to honor because of his contract, Boston Red Sox president Larry Lucchino said Thursday.
Lucchino also said he didn't know the left fielder's motivation for refusing manager Terry Francona's request to play Wednesday afternoon's game at Tampa Bay after another outfielder, Trot Nixon, was sidelined with a strained muscle in his side. Before the injury, Francona told Ramirez he could have the day off. "It's hard to know if the events of the last couple of days are the result of sort of psychological and physical needs for a sustained period of rest or it's some calculation or some move to encourage us to trade him," Lucchino told WEEI radio on his regularly scheduled segment. Lucchino and Ramirez's agent, Scott Parker, did not immediately return phone calls seeking comment. Team owner John Henry and general manager Theo Epstein did not respond to e-mails, and the Red Sox clubhouse was locked on their day off Thursday. Ramirez is batting .275 with 28 homers and a major league-leading 92 RBIs for the Red Sox, who lead the AL East by 1 1/2 games over the New York Yankees. He is due $57 million over the remaining three years of his contract. On Tuesday, Sports Illustrated reported on its Web site that Ramirez, for at least the third time in four seasons, had asked to be traded. The report said he told club officials he was unhappy in Boston, especially with an off-field lack of privacy. The Red Sox will explore trading him before Sunday's deadline, but that will be tough, Lucchino said. "Because of the size of his contract, obviously, it's hard," he said. "There aren't a lot of clubs that are going to be interested, but it depends how little you're willing to take in return with respect to trades. I'm not talking about Manny specifically, although it certainly applies to him." A club might want to make a deal if it asks the Red Sox to pay 95 percent of Ramirez's salary, "but that's not a particularly intelligent thing for us to do," Lucchino said. He also said this is the fourth straight season in which Ramirez has requested a trade "and our general response was, 'it's that time of year' and we'll explore it as we explore other trades." Boston may resist trading Ramirez because it is short in the outfield. With Nixon on the 15-day disabled list and Ramirez not playing, Francona used first baseman Kevin Millar in left field and rookie Adam Stern in right Wednesday. Despite leading the division, Red Sox officials would like to improve their postseason chances with a trade. Last year, Epstein sent shortstop Nomar Garciaparra to the Chicago Cubs at the deadline. "It is the time of year when you consider all manner of trades," Lucchino said. Nobodys perfect, Johhny Damon throws like a girl but he's a great lead off man with a ton of speed in the bases/in the field so that out weighs the fact that his throw takes 8 boucnes to make it to home plate. |
