For the record I admit defeat to corkscrewed...ya got me. Damn it.
Noir is a type of crime film featuring cynical malevolent characters in a sleazy setting and an ominous atmosphere that is conveyed by shadowy photography and foreboding background music. Color isn't exactly relovent. Its more about characters and setting.
