The goal was all the work of the former Leeds man as he received a throw in on the edge of the Birmingham area, he then tricked his way past three players before unleashing a Van Basten-esque volley into the corner leaving Taylor stranded.

how good does that sound?

*awaits tv footage which will show the goal was prob a 1 yard tap in.*

Nice goal, but not really Van Basten-esque

I can't help but feel Newcastle might be shooting themselves in the foot over this Owen deal.

Owen said he wants to go back to Liverpool, but he would go ON LOAN to Newcastle for the season.

Newcastle then make a bid which Liverpool won't match (presumably why they made such a high bid)

So now Liverpool seem to be out of the equation, Owen has to say to himself "Do I want to sign for Newcastle permanently" and I don't think he'll want to. SO rather than having Owen for a season....they probably won't get him at all.

How the hell can a player cost £8 million, not play a regular game all season and win nothing and be worth £18 million a year later?

Okay personally I thought he was worth at least 15 mill last season even in that last year of contract but Real Madrid still can't be serious to expect a £10 million profit on a player they did nothing with and who is about their 5th or 6th choice striker now.

You need to be asking why newcastle have put in such a high bid? Is it because they feel guilty over the Woodgate deal, could it be that Real stil owe a few million for him and newcastle have possible included that as part of the deal hence the reason the price appears to be high. Real paid £13.4m for him last year, Id prob say they stil owe at least £8m for him, it's possible that newcastle could effectively wipe out the remaining debt as part of the deal and be getting Owen for £10m.

*accepts that this is a really far fetched theory*

Everton should accept the fact that Collina blew his whistle for the foul before Ferguson even made contact o put the ball in the net. However things like this happen all the time, Bent gave a slight shirt tug and got a foul given against him, if ref's were to penalise every foul that happened on corners, there would be a minimum of about 7 penalties in every game.

I remember an incident last season where i think it was frank lampard blatently blocked john terry's marker, obvious foul however the ref didnt give anything and it allowed terry a free header and he scored.

It all depends on what the officials can and cant see, last nite i heard collina's whistle go before the goal went in, however the tv claimed it was the linesman who gave the foul and if thats the case, collina was only doing his job and using his assistants.

*i cant believe i'm sticking up for a ref*

Souness has ruled out the year long loan option

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...em/4182612.stm

Souness said: "As I understand it, the loan is not an option, not a chance. Not when we've made a whacking great offer for him that's been accepted. "He is contracted to Real Madrid and it is not his decision."

lol Big Dean Windass might be on his way to Wigan at the tender age of 36.

I fucking love the guy as his attitude when played for boro was spot on. I hope if he takes the chance that he does well, I also hope if Jewel does sign him that he will give him a good chance and a good run in the team. If he is only buying him as back up then FUCK OFF JEWEL LEAVE HIM BE AS HE IS DOING WELL FOR BRADFORD AND I LIKE TO SEE HIM KNOCKING THE GOALS IN AND DONT WANT TO SEE HIM SAT ON THE BENCH OR IN THE STANDS!!

Chelsea did have country protection, you silly cunt.

Liverpool didn't, because they were given an extra place in the competition.

Chelsea are ranked lower in the seedings because in the past 5 years they have not performed as well in Europe as any of the top seeds. It's pretty simple. It requires an attention span and a memory that goes back more than a few months, but then, still pretty simple to understand.

Absolute no need in that you fucking stupid peice of shit, I asked a simple question so there's no need for that sort of a responce!

It still doesnt make sence as to if Chelsea have the protection and Liverpool dont then if Chelsea are an english team as are liverpool so how do they end up in the same group as another english side, where's the protection there ?

Solano's red card appeal was rejected. ahhh fuck you O'Leary you ugly, whinging sack of shite. Accusing Hughes of cheating

Claiming there wasn't any contact when there clearly was I'd have extended the ban for wasting the FA's time with an appeal.

I fucking hate it when people give it the "He's not that kind of lad, he wouldn't do something like that." It sounds like the kind of thing stupid middle class parents say to the police when their kid gets arrested for nicking stuff to fund their drug habbit.

But yes, O'Leary is a dickhead.

Because Liverpool aren't classed as an English qualifier therefore they could have been oaired with Chelsea, Arsenal or Man U

You stupid dickhole, Liverpool weren't classed as an English side because they have no country protection. They didn't qualify as a team put forward by the English FA, but as winners.

What the fuck would it even mean if Liverpool had no "country protection" if another English side couldn't draw them because they did? Are you really that fucking stupid? Does it not even look a little bit stupid when I put into words for you there?

In short: Chelsea could not be drawn against any other side designated as an English qualifier or in the same seed group as them.

Newcastle officially got Luque. He is signed in time for Man U on Saturday. Bad debut for the lad.

Why go into the full fucking ethics of the champions league format to try and make yourself feel more brainy when you could simply say :

He will prob start on the bench, I doubt Souness will start him as he hasnt had anytime to get use to his team mates, either way it could prove to be a good move or a bad move.

If he starts him, the other players arnt use to his style of play and vice versa so it might not work, however Man u will also not know his game so his movement might allow others to break through the man u defence and get shots in.

If he benches him then the way newcastle have been playing of late man u will pass the ball around and the service to shearer will be limited, however, if newcastle can keept it tight like they did for the first 80mins against arsenal, then they could bring him on and add a new dimension to their game and again give man u something different to think about. However at the same time if souness makes the sub to early then ferguson will take a look for a few minutes, asses the situation and then use one of his subs to counteract it.

Either way it may or may not be that bad a debut for the lad.

He'll play up-front, if anywhere. I'm thinking he was signed as a striker. Shearer needs a player like Luque up there with him, to get through the running, since Shearer is practically stationary these days.
