I dunno, bringing in probably the worst pitcher in our bullpen in Tanyon Sturtze in a tie game in the 8th seems pretty smart to me. Honestly, who could not see Sturtze letting at least a run up when he came in? Haven't had confidence in Sturtze in quite some time.
It is kind of ironic though that the very reason Myers is brought in this offseason was to get Ortiz out but he gives up a 3 run homerun the first time he sees him and puts the game out of reach. lol, I dunno. Wasn't the best game played by the Yankees, bad baserunning and whatnot. But that decision by Torre to put Sturtze in there was awful. |

At the first at bat Damon actually got cheered quite a bit mixed in with the boos. You could see a lot of people clapping and stuff. But after that he was booed at every at bat which was expected.

I don't know why Torre has such a hard on for Sturtze. He always puts him in. Hopefully Dotel comes back strong so we only have to deal with Sturtze in mop up situations.

Yeah, Sturtze was effective for about half a year and Torre just falls in love with him. He trusts him so much in big spots; I hate to see him come out at all but in a tie game against the Sox in the 8th is just ridiculous. Torre sees him as the second set up man to Farnsy, but he shouldn't be anywhere near the game when it is close.
Proctor was in the pen warming up wasn't he? I have so much more faith in him than Sturtze. |

BTW, with Small coming back they sent Matt Smith down to AAA. He didn't pitch that much but he was good while he was here, I don't think he gave up any hits in a couple innings. Really should give him a chance and just find something to do with Sturtze.

Proctor has improved a lot. I think he's gonna be solid. I'd rather have him in the game in the 7th than Sturtze. Sturtze should be used if we are getting crapped on big time and we need someone to eat innings, that is it.
I didn't really get a chance to see much of Smith. I doubt he'll make it back up if Dotel is any good, which I think he will be. Rotation: Johnson Mussina Wang Chacon Pavano Bullpen Longman - Small, Wright Mop-up - Sturtze, Villone Lefty specialist - Myers 7th - Dotel 8th - Farnsworth CL - Rivera Hopefully the staff turns out like that. Not too sure what to expect out of Pavano though. I don't really have much confidence in the guy, but I'd rather have him starting than Wright. Ideally we'd have Clemens, but yeah I wouldn't count on that, if he's going anywhere it's Houston. |

Yeah, Proctor has been good this year. He's been brought in some tight spots too and has done fairly well.
Dotel will be a huge boost for the pen when he returns as well. Dotel, Farnsworth and Rivera will be a great back end of the bullpen if Dotel produces when he gets back. Pavano is the biggest question mark on this team. I doubt he will come back and produce much better than Wright which is pretty sad. What month did he get injured last season? It must be close to a year since he's been in the rotation. Him getting injured when he does return or is close to returning will be no shock to me so I'm really not gonna count on him for much. Maybe he will suprise me and actually come back and pitch for the rest of the season strong but I doubt it. I dunno, its gonna be interesting how the rotation situation works out. |

I hope he's halfway decent, because I wouldn't be too comfortable with Small or Wright out there.
Bottom line is Pavano is a mediocre pitcher. We'll try to replace him next year with Zito but he's on the decline too. Ditto for Mark Mulder, who will also be a FA. Pettite will be a free agent too but I don't know if he'd return to NY. Kelvim Escobar and Jason Schmidt are the only other 2 free agent starters worth anything and I don't know how they'd fare in NY (wouldn't mind Escobar but I feel like he wouldn't stay healthy). |

Hopefully A-Rod and Matsui get back on track soon too, lol. I swear the last couple times I've seen A-Rod hit he either strikes out swinging on the high fastball or just gets a cheap walk. Trying too hard again.

Yeah, it will be a boost if he is even halfway decent. I hope we don't trade for Zito near the deadline, we will get robbed on whatever we have to give Oakland.
Interesting to see what the rotation will look like at the end of this year, or next year. I can't wait until some prospects actually start going through the minors, seeing as all of our talent is in A-ball. Phillip Hughes should be great from what I've read and heard. Would be nice to have a pitcher from our system actually develop into something. |

Yeah, probably won't be seeing anything like that for about 3 years though. Oh well.
Kinda sad that the last top tier starter we've produced and kept is Pettite. |

It's gonna be a weird time between when Johnson/Mussina are done and some prospects develop. Obviously George is gonna do something, but we are going to have to rely on free agents which really hasn't worked out with the past few we have signed.

Johnson scares the crap out of me. I really don't know how long he can go.
Mussina is looking great this year though, he's healthy and pitching like he did in his prime. He's more of a finesse pitcher so I think he can keep it up for a couple more seasons. Hopefully we can get him a ring before it's too late. |

Yeah, not too sure about Johnson either. How long is his contract for? One more year or is this his last?
As for Mussina he probably could go a while longer. I know we have an option for him next year at like 18 million haha. That obviously won't be picked up no matter how good he does this year. But I've heard he would like to sign a smaller contract to come back next year, would like to see that happen so he could add some stability to the rotation. |

If I recall correctly, next year is Johnson's last year. I don't see him pitching for the Yankees beyond that.
Moose will be back at a reduced rate. |

I'd like to congratulate whatever Bostonians who decided to write "TRADER" on a giant white sheet and bring it to the game. They definately knocked Damon down a peg with that.

Damon is a little bitch though, it was like 75% boos then he tipped his cap and got some cheers after he did that. People threw money at him in the outfield, pretty good shit. On top of Mirabelli making a crazy return, overall great game for early in the season. These games always are classics though. Red Sox lead the series 46-45 now ![]() One my friends works at Fenway and he said some guy had a stereo right outside of the park with the audio from the Damon interview before last off season where he said he would never go to the Yankees, even if they offered him more money. Kept playing it over and over |

Jason Kendall charged the mound after John Lackey yelled at him for leaning over the plate. Lackey got suspended for 5 games even though Kendall was the faggot and started the fight.

They looked fake to me. If people threw legit money then they are idiots haha especially considered the amount of money they paid for those tickets. I saw tickets on stubhub.com going for almost 1G like 3 weeks ago.
Ortiz's homer in that game probably would have been the longest homerun in the history of Fenway Park if the wind wasn't blowing straight in from center field. He still hit out with the wind, it hit the bat right at the perfect spot. The wind saved a few homeruns that game though. |

All Kendall did was crowd the plate, which is not illegal. Lackey did the only thing Angels players/fans/coaches know how to do, whine and complain. Lackey instigated the entire thing, and his punishment is sitting out 1 whole start. But yeah, Kendall's a fag.
I'm glad it was Kendall charging Lackey and not Posada charging Beckett, then ESPN would have a 3-hour special on it. They might even create a new channel so they could have 24-hour coverage on it. |

So why did he have to charge the mound over a comment? It's not like he got beamed. Lackey may have instigated, but Kendall was the one who started the physcial fight regardless of Lackey's size advantage. Kendall should be suspended as well.

It's the American League. A batter can't let a pitcher talk shit because he won't bat during the game. Kendall should get suspended but he did what he was supposed to do.

It actually couldn't have worked out better for the A's, they got Lackey out of the game, they won the game, and now they have Kendall and his T-ball swings out of the lineup for 3-5 games.

From what I've heard, it doesn't really seem like one guy as at fault. Like Kendall has a rep for leaning out to get hit so Lackey said something about his elbow protector. Then a fight started, don't really see how you can blame anyone, if anything I would thing it would go more towards Kendall but I haven't seen the play yet, so I can't pass judgement.
